Chris Evans Talks Captain America & The Avengers; New Scene Details Revealed!

Check out what the actor had to say about those Hobbit feet, wearing the costume for the first time, The Avengers and kicking Nazi ass! PLUS: More details on Cap's singing and dancing USO days and his fight with the Red Skull...

On The "Hobbit Feet" He Had To Wear On The Manchester Set:

"Man, I'm Frodo Baggins today! They're pretty comfortable, though. I forget I'm wearing them sometimes, and I glance down and go, 'Jeez! What have I stepped in?' I'm already tired. I'm sick of running. Too many days of running. But I'm excited for it."

On Wearing The Costume And The Responsibility That Comes With It:

"I've gotten a bit more used to it. I'm trying to approach this as if it wasn't a superhero movie. It's just about a guy who gets this amazing gift. But the first time I put on the costume, it was a real mix of excitement and terror. 'What have I gotten myself into?' But it's started to feel more like home. A lot of responsibility comes with this costume, I hope I'm doing it justice. Man, I could be wearing this for ten years!"

On What He Knows About The Avengers:

"I don't know anything. I don't even know what they're thinking, plotwise. It's strange; I'm in a movie and I've no idea what it's about! It's a blind challenge I'm facing."

On Steve Rogers As A Character, And What Makes Him Special:

"He's the ideal human. Not just American. It's what beong a good person is. Steve has overcome all the shortcomings in life and does what's good, what he believes is right."

On Taking On The Nazis:

"When this comic book was created, at a time of Hitler and the Nazis, it was an evil we can all agree was evil! It's pretty much not up for debate. Nobody is like, 'No, the Nazis were alright and I'm gonna tell you why! It's the [frick]ing Nazis and they're going down."

Many thanks to Empire Magazine for both the above quotes and the following scene descriptions. Be sure to pick up the issue for more details on the movie, as well as an amusing description of how the crew wound up waiting paparazzi on the Manchester set with the use of a fake Captain America costume!

The chase - the first big action sequence - will end with Rogers diving into the Ocean and going after Kruger, by now in a handily place submarine. For now, Evans is spriniting around a corner, again and again, crashing into a pile of garbage cans.

After he's turned into Captain America, Rogers - the last of his kind, thus too valuable to risk on the battlefield - is paraded before troops to boost morale. There are songs. There is dancing. There's a ceremonial costume that's darned close to the comic book vintage.

Empire is shown impressive concept art, including a giant aerial battle with Cap combating his nemesis, Hugo Weaving's Red Skull, against the backdrop of dozens of clashing planes.

Apart from bookends that locate Cap firmly in the present day, The First Avengers stands alone from its teammates.

Captain America: The First Avenger is set to be released on July 22, later this year!

This also took ages to transcribe. :P I'm liking what I hear though...a lot. This will be THE best comic book movie of 2011 in my opinion. While I had my doubts about Johnston after seeing The Wolfman, I havent seen or heard a single bad thing about the movie yet. While I'd usually be concerned about some of the changes they're making from the comic book, nothing they've so far done seems to be anything but mostly necessary and realistic alterations. July can not get hear fast enough!

Wow, I just got some serious chills! This movie is going to be so beyond epic. I feel so ashamed of myself for doubting Chris when he was first cast. So far it looks and sounds as if his performance in this movie is going to be godlike. This is going to be the best CBM of 2011 by a long shot!

Really? You thought TIH was horrible? I'm with Hush on this one, I think Marvel's really gone 3 for 3 so far - I thought TIH was awesome!

Here's to hoping Thor & Captain America keep the trend going! :)

I third Hush's comment. All 3 of Marvel's films have been great so far. People who are upset about Iron Man 2 need to go back and watch the shit storms we've been handed in the past. I actually prefer Iron Man 2 more than the first one because of a.) it had better action, and b.) I get excited when the Avengers stuff comes on.

Gotta be honest - I thought TIH was a bit dull too. Started great but as soon as the 'genie comes out of the bottle' it loses alot of energy. Just thought the characters rarely got the chance to shine.

The trouble is with the character of Bruce Banner is that he needs to be put into some kind of danger to create some suspense - to worry about him. But whenever he gets cornered he 'hulks out' and basically becomes indestructable. Very difficult to pose a threat toward him.

What ya need to do is to make the idea that turning into the hulk is sooo terrifying and dangerous to him that that is the threat! But that never really came across in the movie. I think he actually needs to start going insane and killing innocent people so that we can feel some sympathy toward his struggle and see his self loathing. You get that with Jeckyl and Hyde, The Wolfman, Frankenstein, etc

Also my main problem with the film is that The Hulk looks to cartoony - but that is more a technology problem. Hopefully the Avengers can put that right :o)

Since I first heard that this movie was going to be made, I have thought that it would be the most difficult to get right on screen. With every bit of new information it's looking more and more that they just may have nailed it perfectly. I can't wait to see this.

PatrickBateman47- Are you mad? Ang Lee's Hulk was so up it's own ass it was unbelievable. Ang Lee's Hulk was awful, donright stinking and basically was nothing like the Hulk. TIH was soo good, the actionw as tremendous and you have top notch actors there...Ed Norton, William Hurt, Tim Roth...that movie was amazing, and was actually a HULK movie. At the end of the day, the Hulk doesn't have much "elegance" he's the strongest one there is, and that should be made clear. TIH did that, Hulk didn't. He was fighting [frick]ing poodles.

Orphix
Orphix - 2/3/2011, 8:23 AM
Ryden @ Gotta agree with Patrick a little bit on that one (sorry dude). Maybe I wouldn't use the word 'elegance' but it definitely needed clever pace and tone for a film of the Hulk to work.

Banner turning into the Hulk should be terrifying for us and especially for him. But he wasn't in the least bit scary. At least in the Ang Lee version I felt he had something to lose.

The danger with The Hulk is that it just turns into a film about him getting angry and then smashing pointless shit up for scene after scene which gets pretty dull pretty quickly.

Also - and I know I am SEVERELY in the minority here - I kind of like the dog stuff in Ang Lees version (guilty pleasure). Purely because we get to see the hulk ripping apart actual living creatures and we can see how deadly he can be. And that scene when Ross orders the fighter pilot to fly his plane into space to destroy the hulk sent shivers down my spine. A touch of Captain Ahab or Khan from Star Trek II in Ross' character there. Chilling.

I hate how they are setting up the classic Cap outfit to get made fun of. This is not good writing or story telling. They did it in X-Men with the yellow spandex line. They just make fun of stuff! It's all in how you play it. No one laughed at the Reeve in his superman duds or tobey in the spidey outfit and they were almost 100% like the comic books!

A good actor can make it work. This is a giant slap in the face to 70 years of Captain America!!
The grey looks aweful. I hope the classic suit was made really well and their plan backfires!!! I hope audiences go " Damn why did they make him change outfits???.....Its porbably also to just sell more toys
like iron man

Hey, TIH could turn out to be another Clash of the Titans (of the same director).

Thankfully it's still batting above .500 because of Norton and of course source material, and that's what it counts.
