For the past few months now, I've desperately been trying to find out whether or not Captain America: The First Avenger will film just a few miles up the road from me in Caerwent. After paying a visit to the area and taking some photos for those of you who were wondering what sort of location it is. I was recently able to get in touch with Penny Skuse, who is the Film Officer for "Wales Screen Commission - South East Office".
She promised to get in touch with Marvel Studios to finally find out whether or not they'll film in the area and today the speculation and excitement (well mine at least) can finally come to an end as I recieved an email earlier that confirmed that shooting will indeed take place in the now derelict WWII era military base and Royal Navy propellant factory. Below are some excerpts from that message:
"The good news is that they have confirmed that they are definitely filming in Caerwent...the bad news is that they cannot confirm what cast will be there, what the scenes will be and how long they'll be there for."
Yes, it's a little disappointing not to know the finer details but it would have actually been pretty naive to think that Marvel would be willing to reveal that sort of information. (However, I would of course like to once again thank Penny for sharing this info with us regardless)
However, I'm confident that as soon as they start preparing to film in Caerwent we'll hear something (as we have with locations in Manchester and Liverpool) and I personally plan on checking around the area every few days so will keep you updated as to what I find!
