With almost every comic fans expectations and anticipation directed towards the release of Marvel Studios upcoming film
Captain America: The First Avenger this summer, there is one little thing that has probably escaped most of our minds. Take a moment of your time at some point this month to say
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAPTAIN AMERICA!"
That's right, it was 70 years ago this month that Joe Simon and Jack Kirby first introduced Captain America (aka Steve Rogers) to the public. Since that moment, the good Captain has been revered as one of the most iconic and undoubtedly, most patriotic superheros ever. Whether alone, with partners Bucky, The Falcon, or leading his fellow teammates in first The Invaders, and then later in The Avengers, Captain America is and always will be, one of the most respected heroes among comic fans.
After gracing literally thousands of comics over the years and appearing in both animation and a few feeble attempts at live action television and film, Captain America finally gets a "legitimate" shot at an honest to goodness, big budget, Hollywood feature film this year with
Captain America: The First Avenger. With multiple solo films and multiple
Avenger features in Cap's future, it seems that his popularity has almost nowhere to go but up at this point.
Hawksblueyes: Caps popularity and longevity has to say something in this day and age of always going "darker" and "grittier", to the fact that it is still fantastic to see a person so positive. It speaks volumes (IMO) that even in these times of uncertainty and divisiveness, so many people all over the world still can and do, relate to ideals that many consider dead and buried.
