Now that we finally have a Captain America in Chris Evans, it seems some old fan favorites are expressing their desire to wield Cap's shield. One guy who I remember was an absolute fan favorite, "V" & "Taken" actor, Joel Gretsch.

FlickCast recently had an interview with Gretsch, discussing his TV series 'V', and the Star Spangled Avenger came up in the interview.

FlickCast: Since the sci-fi world was introduced to you in Spielberg’s Taken, the question got raised if you would ever play Captain America. I know we’ve mentioned it many times around the office, and we think you would’ve been our number 1 pick.

Joel: [laughs] No Kidding! Aww, that’s great. I’m absolutely flattered. It’s nice to even be thought of as that.

Absolutely. Has the discussion ever been brought up in the past? Is that something you’ve ever been interested in?

Joel: Of course! Are you kidding me? Of course! I think I heard that Chris Evans is playing the character now. Terrific actor, and he’ll be wonderful in it. I think he’s a little younger than me, too [laughs].

I would’ve loved to do it. But no, nobody has ever approached me to do it. I’m still flattered, though!

Joel recently worked alongside our Captain America, Chris Evans, in 2009's "Push".

totally agree he should of been the captain, anyone would of been better than that prick chris evans.
if the invaders are meant to be in captain america film wouldn't evans been better casted as the original human torch that later becomes the vision.

No because..ah you know what? I'm not even gonna bother. Yes, Evans should have played Torch to tie him in with a now defunct, useless load of shit franchise.,,guess I did bother after all!

This dude looks like a slightly less cranially deformed Mark Valley. Blonde hair, blue eyes check, 70 years old, check. Ah no he could have worked, I always said I wanted an older Cap anyway but I would have went with Aaron Eckhart.

It may just be that all white people look alike to me but does anyone else think he looks like Mark Valley?

why is it...that everytime there's a blurb or a statement made COMPLETELY out of context of the interview or conversation it becomes a NEWS item? Like Billy says, "him and a hundred other people"...a perfunctory, out the side of his mouth, statement is not cause to make it NEWS...it's, at best water cooler talk..."oh, ya know, Joel Gretsch woulda made a good Cap..." "Yeah, he said in an interview one time he would have loved it..." That's it...I would love to play Moon Knight...doesn't mean it's gonna happen and doesn't mean anyone cares...

It's weird how some of you guys are saying that Chris will be a bad cap (and saying other actors would be better) before filming has even started. Unless somebody here is from the future then none of us know whether or not he'll suck as cap.

I like Gretsch and have seen most of the stuff he's been in (I LOVE THE 4400), but the problem is, as soon as you get into his age range, there are much better actors suited for the role...

I hope we don't have to see articles about every actor who wanted to be Captain America. Who cares? The role is cast. I know...I don't have to read them. :-P

I remember him from the 4400 and the V series he could have been the Cap. Chris Evans is ok but not Cap material at all.

Didn't Beyonnce storm in the producers office and demand to be cast for the part?
MEGGA
MEGGA - 4/13/2010, 9:15 PM
WTF... Chris Evans is Human Torch NOT Cap material. Chris Evans and that Gossip girl fruit do not inspire me to go into battle(would you follow them?). I am so angered that Marvel is trying to [frick] up this movie and make Cap and America a joke to the world. It PAINS me to say this but I am personally boycotting this movie and encourage everybody to do the same.

I agree too. Evans is a comedian not a serious type. like what he did in Fantastic four. A wrong guy to be cap.

@MEGGA: "would you follow them?"

No I wouldn't follow Chris Evans into battle. He's an actor...

But I'd happily pretend to follow Chris Evans into battle as Captain America in a movie.

I don't care whether Chris Evans, the guy, is capable or worthy of leading a team into battle. I only care about whether he can convince me he's that guy in a movie. And until we see how he does that (or indeed, whether he can), I'll withhold judgement. Like a sane person.

Would you have believed Heath Ledger could scare the living daylights out of you? Give the guy a chance at least before condemning him before a single frame has been shot and perhaps looking like a total tool later...

And what teabag said.

Well seeing as Marvel chose directors and actors many ppl weren't sure abt in both TIH and IM and that turned out great (and they seem to be doing it again) and changed a lot of stuff: Iroman: Jarvis was a computer voice, TIH: No Gamma Bomb and in spite of those changes the movies turned out great, I think (un-like the rest of you) I'm going to give MARVEL (not the directors or actors) the benefit of the doubt and look forward to seeing some more great CBM's. As far as am concerned all naysayers can eat my two day old shorts. Nuff said!

Oh that comment above is directed at all the talk abt the upcoming movies and the Avengers and not the article here. I rather like Mr. Gretsch.
