John Cena Shoots Down Captain America Casting Rumor

Wrestler John Cena answers the rumor about being cast for Captain America.

John Cena is an extraordinary athlete and great wrestler, but there is no way on God's green earth he has the acting chops to play Captain America. John goes on to say that any talk of him being up for, or taking meetings for the part of the Star Spangled Avenger is purely internet vapor.

"To kill the rumor, I was never contacted by anyone," Cena told MTV. "Usually when those rumors start it’s because someone in that community thinks that I would be okay for a role. I’m flattered that they think I could play Captain America and I would be up for it."

However, Cena does say he'd love to have a shot at the part.

TheProgram-
well what movie's were he in? if they were action movies and he had to be like a tough guy with military or fbi background and a weapons expert whats the problem if he acted the same in both?

now if were in too distinct movies like a romance/comedy and and a action flick u would have an arguement there

kids love that guy, he has charisma and as far as the character of captain america go's the person picked wouldnt have to have shakespear acting skills, just knowledge of a military background be heroic and the passion to be a united states citizen and cena could do that.

Yeah he definatly doesnt have the acting ability...With that being said I wouldnt doubt that a couple of years down the road he might be better. But we need cap NOW..and Jensen Ackles is already signing up to be Cap. (absolutly fine with me) Plus Cena is to short, he's only 5'8" he has the build, but he face is wayy to big to put on the cap mask. It grew to much during his GH usage

John Cena is a goofy looking [frick] with the wrestling ability of a potato and if he had been cast in this role i would have wished him harm to prevent him playing it!

I'll kind of agree with LOGANSPATCH, he's got the charisma, just not the acting chops!

"But wudda I do sarge? Imma marine!"

Dumbass.

Im thinking maybe, and everyone i mean maybe, Sam Worthington (i think thats his name) from the new Terminator flick would be a decent choice for Cap. Any other ideas?

I am just going to throw this out there cause I am a big Bond fan but what about Daniel Craig? Or is that too British for Americas greatest super hero? Haha hmm just anyone but john cena haha atleast the rock had somewhat skill branching over

Please god, NO!

Why are these rumors starting? HHH as Thor and Cena as Cap. Do the fanboys want to ruin these movies, before they even start? These guys couldn't act their way out of a paperbag. Sure they are good wrestlers. But, just becuase they are "acting" when wrestling, doesnt mean they can act for real. Look at their movies, and you will see what I mean.

Plus, Cena is too big to be Cap. Steve Rogers was rejected from the military because he was too weak. Cena cant play that. Who would believe him getting rejected because he was too weak. The Rock is a horrible option also, he cant play the weakling that gets rejected.

I hate to say it, but you need someone like Toby Maguire. Someone that can play small and weak, then turn into the strong being that is Captain America.

What if they gave someone like Brian Van Holt, Ryan Phillippe, or Jeremy Renner a shot at a lead role like this..

If they got a lil bit more toned up (similar to Jackman & Wolverine)... They might be able to surprise folks much like RDjr did with Iron Man...

I think Karl Urban might be another guy who could do a good job...

John Cena is a good actor I think, I saw 12 Rounds and it was actually pretty good. The only problem with Cena is that his body type pretty much sets him up for the cop type roles in any sort of movie ie 12 Rounds and The Marine. As far as a superhero goes I dont think Captain America would be a great choice, not a bad choice but not the greatest. He would make an excellent Colossus. His physic calls for him to play a big character.

i don't think this was ever a rumor. it's just him talking shit trying to put his name out there for the movie, letting people like us talk about it and mention his name in the casting. cap is still on the marvel part of the movies, as is iron man, hulk, and look at those movies. they did a great job with the casting. nobody at marvel has ever thought about this piece of crap for the role. he's a puppet, one of the many things wrong with media, fantasy of tv, and a slap to the face of the essences of hip hop. i have never seen a movie of his and never will, but trust me

HE WAS NEVER UP FOR CAPTAIN AMERICA!!!!!!!!!

but i do like pumchavas casting calls.
look at the other gay mountain cowboy, he's buffed up nice for the prince of persia movie.

John Cena shouldnt do anything but what he is already doing. Just stay right there in the B-action movie genre.

Tom Jane or Aaron Eckhart are my 2 picks for Captain. I bet they are going to go younger for Cap though, and I cannot think of any young actors that have the chops to be able to lead RDJ.

I don't know his name, but what about the guy who played the Punisher in the first movie playing good ol' Cap? Or maybe Christopher Watkin......Just kidding.
Jetsaholic
Jetsaholic - 3/31/2009, 1:07 PM
Well, he could look the part. Acting wise, everybody is going to have something to say about everybody's acting chops. I wouldn't be upset if he was the Cap. The media circus behind it would be fun to watch.

Tom Welling for Captain America. Smallville is almost over, he he wants to be a movie actor, he has the look and can act, and since he will probably never wear the tights he might as well give the shield a try.

So here's the thing. I watch wrestling because it entertains me. Cena is one of the characters that do just that such thing. So, "can he act?"...yea...he does it every week pretty well. Is he "CAP" material...not on your life.

"loganaspatch" - the two movies he's been in are basicaly the same movie...just different titles. Let's see...a police officer/ex-Marine has his wife/girlfriend kidnapped and he has to fight to get her back. A person can only watch that story SO many times...and since all of your "big male actors" have done just that or a variaion of it (ie;wives, girlfriends, daughters) it's pretty played out.
ManThing
ManThing - 3/31/2009, 2:39 PM
His acting appears to be improving just like The Rock's eventually did, but playing Cap is no place for on the job training.
On the other hand Cena does have the build.

That's important to a Cap movie because they are not going to be able to get by with putting him in a rubber suit like the probably will for Thor, which blows!!!!!!!!

Thanx KeepItReal !!! ; ) CENA wishes he was CAPTAIN AMERICA!!! Though i have seen him in MARINE an i really enjoyed that movie! Go an watch it, pretty cool! Though, he's in the B movie world still so i don't think MARVEL would chance it! I personally think = UNKNOWN,, just like GREEN LANTERN too, you don't need a big name just a very good actor!!! Case in point SUPERMAN THE MOVIE!!! ; )
