I would have preffered Jensen Ackels, but I can live with him. He is a very versatile actor, I have faith in this casting. I think it is a good one as well.

You get one Marvel film. Evans had his chance.

The Human Torch thing should not be an issue

1. The movies are by two different studios
2. They are actors playing roles
3. Fox is rebooting FF anyway
4. Wouldn't you rather have a quality actor vs some crappy one that's never done a CBM?
5. The comics do it, why can't the movies?

How many people in comics have been Captain America, Robin, etc...?

Evans will be great for this role!

You're right @Breasticles7, you get one Marvel film. Since Ryan Reynolds was already Hannibal King in 'Blade' we shouldn't allow him to play Deadpool, even though he's perfect for it and is doing his best to protect the sanctity of the original material. Screw him!

Evans was in an inferior Fox version of a Marvel property (which is already being rebooted) and he was the best part of the film. If you truly want to say 'one Marvel film' then you should expect Marvel Studios to eventually take back control of all of it's individual properties, meaning only Marvel Studios films will be canon. In the long run, Marvel will cast a Johnny Storm for their continuity and that will be that Human Torch in a true Marvel film, while Evans will be playing only one character (Captain America) in a true Marvel film.

I think it's very telling that the one that's in the lead so far is "he might be okay", but I think that's all the studios could hope for with a character as important as Captain America, because people's pseudo-indifference means that you didn't pick who they wanted, but you didn't screw up either...

I think that this is brilliant news. I may have supported Jensen Ackles and Ryan McPartlin but Evans is a choice that I would have never considered but is better than any I've suggested or heard.

I may have lost faith in Marvel with all of the recent (and awful) casting rumours but they couldnt have gone with anyone better than Chris Evans! MAKE MINE MARVEL!!! :)

I think he'll do fine. He's a lot better than some of the other 'possibles' that were paraded around these last few weeks.

Saying he can only be in one CBM is like saying Clint Eastwood or John Wayne can only be in one western!

I guess it could be worse. I just don't think i'll be able to take Evans seriously. But who knows, maybe we'll be surprised.

@Breasticles.

1> F4 was a Fox film, not Marvel. it was based on Marvel characters, but it was Fuc, I mean Fox's hands.

2> Get rid of that pic man, it's giving me nightmares! Damn. I will raise the F***ing Corinthian!

FEAR HIM!

I think they did as well as could be expected.

Hell's bells... just look at all the fairies and uber dorks and underdeveloped kids they were having read for this.

Evans really stands out in that crowd as being the right man for the job.

Ackles, mcpartlin, whatever... ok some of those guys would have been fine too. But Evans is a seasoned actor. It's a solid choice. It's a choice that makes perfect sense all things considered.

To me he doesn't fit the maturity of a leader.. I think he doesn't have the presence.. And it's not a knock on him.. It's just (IMO) his other work.. Nothing stands out that he has the charisma of the an iconic symbol of America.. We'll just have to see how good of an actor he is to pull it off I guess..

Has anyone noticed that this may not be true? I mean come to think of it this could be blown out of proportion. We need confirmation from Evans and Marvel not some unreliable sources...

For example, IMDB has first put Jensen Ackles on the cast list for Captain America who authorized that info? Next comes John Krasinki being listed, and also the other possible candidates.

Most of these sites like Collider,Variety and Hollywood Reporter base most of their info about casting from IMDB. So how do we really know that Chris Evans is Captain America and not just a hyped rumor? Time will tell and hopefully Chris...

i think he should have played cap. from the start i mean he was the only reason why the ff movies were watchable, but marvel didn't have the control over their movies the way they wanted so those movies sucked, now they do and i think cap. will give ironman a run for its money, depending on the director.

I agree with Breasticles7 in the sense he'll be hard to take seriously. But, if Evans approaches the film right, it should be decent.

I'm a little disappointed. Evans may be better than alot of the other people that auditioned, but I still don't believe he is the best man for the part, and that bothers me.

Regardless of my concerns, I'm sure he'll do the best that he can with the role. He's a good actor, and I'll have to put my faith in him and Johnston.

In the middle between the first and second options. I think he's a great choice, but I'm not going to say he's perfect. Probably leaning more towards the first option though.

Go Evans! And I wonder what Lee's going to vote? Hm.... :)

Congrats to Evans for getting the part. Weeks before Evans was cast, I saw someone on another site mention Evans as Cap, and I agreed, saying I never thought of it, but he'd be great. Although I didn't think Marvel would go for him because he was HT already. Lo and behold, here we are today, with Evans set as Cap. It's a funny world we live in, isn't it?

My dad says Chris has too much of a baby face and I can't see it because I'm 20. I think the problem is that he's 52.

I know some people aren't going to be happy because Cap has been around for like 70 years, but come on! This is an origin story. A serum doesn't make Cap. The movie has to grow this character into Captain America.

I never considered Evans. I still think Jensen Ackles would have been the most perfect choice for the criteria of the film, BUT I am okay with Evans. I've been so scared with some of these rumors (Krasinski) that I'm so glad that it's over and Chris Evans gets my sigh of relief. Not a happy dance though. I have to wait for a trailer for that.

Evans will be okay.

He needs to bulk up, though.

Cap needs to be ripped.

Evans will make or break his career with this role.

The whole Avengers franchise hinges on this hire, IMHO.

I hope it works out.

I'll have to wait and see. I think Evans is a decent actor, but isn't quite the face I imagined for Cap (Far and above Krazinski, however). Perhaps his acting will astonish us and deliver the goods.
Someone said it earlier, on Marvel Freshman's article, "it was a lazy casting job." Whomever was the liason producer for Marvel should have had a short list of actors that they would have casted themselves.

Ozy, Johnston is far from being a hack. Micheal Bay is a hack. All of Bay's films are one-toned movies that follow a certain formula. Johnston has had hits and misses that were all different genre of action movies. Was Hidalgo bad? Or the Rocketeer?
ReillyParker
ReillyParker - 3/22/2010, 10:27 PM
One reason I'm happy with this is that I don't think anyone a month ago would of thought of Evans as Cap. Personally I love it when the studio doesn't go for the obvious casting choice. It's a break for the actor and IF the actor does pull it off it creates a huge impact on fans, audiences, etc. I'm sure this was the case for Heath as Joker. Some people I remember were whining about RDJ (although I always thought he was perfect for Stark). I say if you don't have faith Johnston (which I am on the fence about) at least have faith in Marvel. Since Iron Man they have yet to let me down.

@Phinehas LEEE is the one who said it was lazy. It does seem kind of lazy, but oh well.

Maybe Marvel leaked the Krasinski scare so that when they announced the real choice, we would all be so relieved that we would think it was brilliant!

I'm With fightingfoo93 .....He is a Slice off America !!
C'mon Folk's Did you really think Marvel was Gonna Pick a CW/Twilight/supernatural type Guy?.
They Needed a Real actor For This (Not a PrettyBoy)
They Didn't go too young or Old When they Picked Him.
And Foget about two somewhat cheesy FF movie's They are Gone , In fact he was the Only Thing i really Liked about the Movie's (him and the Thing)We're all Not gonna Get what we want out of any super flick i think ,but He'll do Just Fine .
