UPDATED Sam Worthington Responds To Captain America Fan Casts!

It seems Sammy boy has seen your work Lee;) When talking to SCi Fi Wire the Aussie actor turned up in a Captain America t-shirt(Clearly the Avengers t-shirt from last time wasn't a coincidence).

When asked if said tee had anything to do with his wanting the role, he said:

"I know, the bloggers are going bananas, I'm a fan, man. I'm a big fan. And I've always said, if you're going to wear a shirt on a blog or the TV, wear something you're interested in. I'm not a billboard, so I'm going to wear something that I'm intrigued by. I'm a big Captain America fan."

Has anyone spoken to him about the role?

"No, no, they haven't talked to me," Worthington said.

Apparently he has also heard about the fan backlash against his playing the role due to his non Americanness!

"And according to all the bloggers, you know, 'Damn him, he's Australian, how dare he? Who does he think he is?'" Worthington said. "I read it all. But you know, It's just as I said, I'm just a fan."(He's definitely been on CBM!)

But does he want the role?

"I know how to hold a shield," Worthington—who also stars in the upcoming Clash of the Titans—says with a smile. "Because I did it as Perseus."

"As I said, I think I'd be lynched if I played the role, but I'd kill to play it," he said. "There's a headline on the MTV blog: 'Sam Worthington Would Kill To Play Captain America.'"

"I can read it now, 'I don't think so, he can't hold an accent!' — but I can hold a shield, that's for sure! Go watch Perseus!"
