A QUIET PLACE Star Emily Blunt Says She Was Never Actually In The Running To Play CAPTAIN MARVEL

Before Brie Larson landed the role of Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, rumors had circulated that Emily Blunt was a front-runner for the part - however, the actress has now set the record straight...

Before Marvel Studios even announced that a Captain Marvel movie was in the works Emily Blunt (Edge of Tomorrow) was a fan-favorite choice to play Carol Danvers, so when reports indicated that she was one of the front-runners to suit-up as the space-faring hero, the internet was a very happy place indeed.

Of course, Brie Larson ultimately wound up nabbing the role - but even if she hadn't, it doesn't sound like Blunt was ever in the running.

While chatting to Screen Crush about her new film A Quiet Place, Blunt was asked how close she came to landing the part, and responded: "Oh, no, nobody ever called me about it. [Laughs] It was all untrue!"

Ah well, there are still plenty of other great superheroes out there... right?

"I mean, I think Mary Poppins is a superhero, so I’ll just say that she’s my superhero. Yeah, I think I’ve fulfilled that. I’ll say it’s her. Listen, she can fly, she has superpowers, she’s magical. I’ll just go with Mary Poppins."

We may have to settle for Emily taking to the skies as a magical British nanny!

Part of me thinks she would have made a great Black Widow though... anyhow, moving on

@VicSage - Wasn't she up for that but was already committed to another movie?

@DirkLargepeck - If I recall correctly, it was between her, ScarJo and Eliza Dushku (how?).

@L0RDbuckethead - Dushku did a lot of Joss's shows and they're good friends.

@BlackBeltJones - Ahh that makes much more sense, thank you. I was talking about Black Widow casting the other day on a previous thread and I couldn't figure out why Dushku out of all actors was considered with ScarJo and Blunt.

I honestly couldn't think of any role I'd want Dushku to have in the MCU... She has voiced She-Hulk before in an animated show; I wonder what she could do with a live-action take on the character?

@L0RDbuckethead - Dollhouse was a pretty fun show with Joss and Eliza. Though I agree, I'm not quite sure what character she would play in the MCU either.

@rds130 - I haven't seen Dollhouse, but I've heard good things about it's short run. I guess I never realized it was a Whedon show.

She-hulk would be my first idea, then maybe... Jessica Drew? Idk.

@L0RDbuckethead - Not exactly, Emily Blunt was actually cast as Black Widow. But she had to give up the role a couple weeks later due to her existing contract with 20th Century Fox. I think she had a 3 picture deal with Fox. The studio wanted her to play the female lead in Gulliver's Travels. Marvel Studios then cast Scarlet Johansson.

@L0RDbuckethead - It's like AoS, a Joss idea but a Jed and Maurissa run show. Joss created the idea to showcase Dushku's "diverse" acting range. But really it just showed that Dushku kind of sucked at acting, as her fellow dolls (Enver Gjokaj (Agent Carter) and Dichen Lachman (AoS/Torchwood)) had a far greater acting range.

@TanukiTrooper - Hmm, interesting. I'll have to check it out. It looks like there's only 30 or so episodes.

@superbigguy32 - That is great! I thought that there was way too much humor in GotG V 2, but I loved the Mary Poppins gag. That pic is a great reversal of it
