When Marvel Studios officially announced the start of production on Captain Marvel in late March, they also revealed a number of unexpected cast additions, including up-and-comer McKenna Grace (Gifted) in an undisclosed role.

While we hadn't really heard anything about her part, That Hashtag Show is now reporting that she'll be playing a young Carol Danvers and will appear in scenes set in the 1980s, alongside Kenneth Mitchell, who has been cast as her father Joseph Danvers. It remains to be seen whether these scenes will be a prologue to the film or if they'll be flashback sequences.

Their report also reveals that actress Ana Ayora (The Big Wedding) has joined the cast in a mysterious role. Meanwhile, Indian-Canadian actor Vik Sahay (Chuck) has also confirmed his involvement, via Twitter.

I hope this has a very formulaic origin story.

Gifted was a really good movie. Pretty typical story but Chris Evans and McKenna Grace had great chemistry.

Check it out if you haven’t already.

I still need to watch one of these guy's movies to get a feel for them as directors

That said, I'm glad Marvel seem to be staying dedicated to keeping a large number of POC in these movies. They talked big after BP but if CM is any indication they're walking the walk as well

I hadn't heard of any of these actors, so here's some pictures of them:

Vik Sahay (Chuck, American Reunion)

Ana Ayora (The Big Wedding, Banshee)

McKenna Grace (I, Tonya, Designated Survivor)

Forgive the potential racial sensitivity here for assuming but maybe he’s somehow linked to Kamala Khan? Feige did make it seem like something was in the works

@Ha1frican - Eh, almost certainly not. They're in the beginning stages of maybe thinking about how they're going to introduce Kamala Khan, they're not going to cast relatives of hers yet, that would imply they have a plan going forward. Casting a South Asian actor doesn't necessarily have anything to do with Kamala Khan being included in the MCU in the distant future. :D

@kaethar - you say that but we got prowler in Homecoming with no real indication of Miles Morales on the horizon

@Ha1frican - Miles' existence in the MCU was hinted at in the scene in the parking garage.....

@deepee3 - his existence yes... not him being actually featured especially since we know Peter is going to have at least 3 movies.

@Ha1frican - The Prowler is a well-known character though who has a history with Peter Parker. The same can not be said for any of Kamala's relatives, it would be convoluted to squeeze them into the story. What's so great about Kamala is that she has no relation to the Avengers, she's just a fangirl from afar. It would take away from her story to have her family have history with Carol Danvers, so I definitely don't think they'll go for that. Keep in mind that this casting isn't for a cameo (this is for a considerable role in the movie).

Is McKenna Grace gonna say "SHAZAM!" and turn into Brie Larson?

@Battabing - Maybe if this were a... you know... SHAZAM movie... Adapt or die dinosaur. Adapt or die.
