Four years ago, Marvel Studios used its Hall H presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con to officially announce that Oscar-winner Brie Larson would play the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Captain Marvel. Since then, the actress has starred in her own solo movie, as well as Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Captain Marvel received positive reviews and earned over $1 billion at the box office, a pretty unprecedented outcome for a movie starring a character who was largely unknown to non-comic book fans.

In many ways, it barely scratched the surface with the character, though, and there's now a lot of excitement surrounding Captain Marvel 2, especially with rumours circulating that it will adapt "Secret Invasion."

Now, to mark the anniversary of the big announcement, Larson has shared a number of photos from her life and behind the scenes of Captain Marvel, giving us some insight into what it's been like to play the character. Many fans were surprised by her relatively minor role in Avengers: Endgame, so it definitely feels like the best is yet to come with the fan-favourite hero moving forward.

Check out those photos below:

@Captainhulk1 - wondering why this non-news article has over 200 comments huh?

She’s a really great actress. Didn’t care for the Captain Marvel movie, so hopefully they get stronger writers and directors for the next one since Larson’s generally great in everything else I’ve seen her in.

@tmp3 - the problem is that much of the criticism has been dismissed as sexism. I really dont see them getting much better in terms of writing at all. And im interested in seeing how the sequel performs knowing there isnt an endgame level event following it like how the first one did.

@Origame - Has it? Not really.
I didn't care for Captain Marvel at all and no-one's ever accused me of being a sexist. Bad faith criticism doesn't invalidate legitimate criticism.
Also, all they have to do is get a better writer than the screen-writer of the Tomb Raider reboot and more inspired directors than the duo who's claim to fame was a glorified after-school PSA elevated by Ryan Gosling, lol. It's not that hard.

@tmp3 - 1) there have literally been articles claiming only sexist men are giving captain marvel bad reviews. You're lucky to not experience that but its definitely in the minority.

2) yes, they can but if they can get over a billion by doing what they did before theyd probably just do it again.

@Origame - Yeah, and there are also articles that only "woke SJWs loved Captain Marvel", so I guess if we only deal in bad faith criticism we could be here all day. There's literally a cult of 40 year old men dedicated to making angry rants over anything Brie Larson does.
Also, considering the directors aren't coming back, they could always get someone stronger behind the lens and someone stronger to pen the script. Logan was the second sequel to X-Men Origins Wolverine, if that can happen in Hollywood then literally any sequel can improve from its predecessor with new creative blood.

@tmp3 - dude, even people involved with marvel called the critics against captain marvel "dinosaurs walking toward the tar pit".

@Origame -
In a conversation with Nerdist Gregg, who reprises his role as Agent Phil Coulson in Captain Marvel, calls the small group of toxic fans who have been putting out manufactured backlash against the film "sad", likening them to dinosaurs on their way to extinction.

"There are people that get very bent out of shape about the fact that she's a woman, and that Brie's a woman, and wants to see women moving into an equal place in humanity to men," Gregg said. "It's sad. It must be sad to be that kind of dinosaur wandering toward the tar pits."

Insanely ironic for me to say all that stuff about there being so much bad faith criticism involved in the Captain Marvel discourse only for you to... engage in bad faith criticism in the Captain Marvel discourse. Could have saved me a lot of time if you'd disclosed that from the get go, considering Greg's not even talking about critics but twitter trolls.

@tmp3 - considering the people that he was talking about also said they were going to see alita instead...

@Origame - Those people that he was addressing in that interview are those that were negative review bombing the rotten tomatoes audience score BEFORE the movie even came out and BEFORE advance screening. Considering Alita had a poor domestic box office turn out (albeit great worldwide) I’m not sure how much weight your statement has

@CryinFist - funny, because you cant post a review on rotten tomatoes until the movie actually comes out. What you guys fail to realize is that this was a "want to see" score that you can specify why you dont want to watch it.

It goes both ways boss, there are equally small sections on both sides that try to paint the ENTIRE opposing side in a bad light.

@LongMayHeReign - i will certainly agree that there are examples on both sides. However, it gets to the point even the majority of media outlets are labeling the negative criticism as offensive and from immature man babies.

Personally im fine with anyone who genuinely likes the movie.
