Captain Marvel's "Want To See" percentage score on Rotten Tomatoes has plummeted recently because those who disagree with star Brie Larson's comments about inclusion have decided to make it appear as if moviegoers don't want to see the film (which they hope will have a negative impact on its opening weekend).
Well, Rotten Tomatoes has now removed the "Want To See" option altogether and are "doing it to more accurately and authentically represent the voice of fans, while protecting our data and public forums from bad actors."
Captain Marvel's "Want To See" rating had fallen to 28% as of yesterday and the new version only shows how many people have voted rather than generating a score. How this will stop the eventual "Audience Score" from being trolled remains to be seen, but the ability to comment on a movie before its release has also been taken down by the site.
"Unfortunately, we have seen an uptick in non-constructive input, sometimes bordering on trolling, which we believe is a disservice to our general readership," read the company's official statement. "We have decided that turning off this feature for now is the best course of action."
Star Wars Episode IX was also being targeted in recent days so it definitely feels like this is a smart move by Rotten Tomatoes. What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section and stay tuned for updates on this situation as we have them.
