POLL: How Would You Rate THE MARVELS Following Its Release In Theaters This Weekend?

POLL: How Would You Rate THE MARVELS Following Its Release In Theaters This Weekend?

We've brought you social media reactions and even our own thoughts on The Marvels, but with the sequel now playing in theaters, it's time for you, ComicBookMovie.com's readers, to share your star rating...

The Marvels isn't going to break any box office records this weekend, but that doesn't mean it won't still be a hit in the eyes of some. After all, the MCU has a huge fanbase, and despite talk of "superhero fatigue" and problems within Marvel Studios, the buzz surrounding the Captain Marvel sequel has been largely positive.

Early social media reactions were good and that's since translated into a "Fresh" 61% score on the Tomatometer (at least as we write this).

While The Marvels is unlikely to go down as a classic in the same vein as Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther, there's a lot to appreciate about it. However, at the same time, it's easy enough to understand why some fans have walked away dissatisfied, especially when it boasts such an underwhelming villain.

The cast helps it soar, but at the same time, not even a post-credits scene with a game-changing cameo will be enough for some people to look past the flaws of a movie which occasionally feels like it was gutted in the editing room. With all that in mind, we're sure you'll agree that it's a hard movie to rate!

"Proof that a 90-minute blockbuster can soar," we said in our review, "The Marvels is bolstered by three terrific leads and might just be the most fun you’ll have at the theater this year, even if it’s not necessarily destined to be remembered as a mighty Marvel classic."

That's our take, but it's now time for you to share yours. In the poll below, you can cast your vote by choosing a star rating for the latest Marvel Studios movie. All we ask is that you answer honestly because review-bombing...well, that's a pretty sad thing to do, right?

In The Marvels, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe.

When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as "The Marvels."

The movie stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, Iman Vellani, Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon.

The Marvels is set to arrive in theaters on November 10.

3/5. Enjoyable with some good character moments, but nothing special.

Kinda movie you watch once or twice and that's it.
Nice ride at an amusement park but not one you would remember for years to come.

Still better in nearly every way from the first one, ironically enough, lel.

I'm conflicted. I don't see anything wrong with it. But it's no infinity war. So it can't be a 5. So I settled with a 4. But again I can't think of one thing they could have done better

Maybe 3 times in the movie I can tell some things were cut that could Have been a better transition

@Vigor - they could have had an actual story, or a better villain to begin with. She didn't feel like a generic mustache twirling villain?
Vigor
Vigor - 11/11/2023, 12:27 PM
@bobevanz - not to me, no. Malekith seemed like a mustache twirling villain

@Vigor - How about this?
I say keep everything same but at the end when space-time tear appears, Monica suggests captain Marvel and Ms Marvel to resolve it while she goes behind Darben. Here villain didn't die while opening a portal. Monica still absorbs captain Marvel powers for some reason just like movie.

You ends with Monica catching up with Dar-Ben. She reveals she was a super skrull and says skrulls will take revenge for all the kree atrocities. She explodes killing both of them. Post credit shows Fury to be skrull as well as showing ending of TV series was fever dream of dying real Fury.

This stablish secret invasion.

@Vigor - At the end of the day a movie is subjective. If people enjoyed this, that's great. I wish I could say the same.

I enjoyed Flash more than this, controversies aside, because it gave me emotional moments, predictable and clichéd story(much like Marvels) but there was an emotional core. I like movies that make me feel something.

And for me that's what was lacking, an emotional core. The film doesn't bore you; there's interesting action sequences, the actors are giving good performances, even the CGI is a little better than Quantumania. But the movie felt uninterested in developing its emotional core.

They could've had better character development. As much as I enjoyed Ms Marvel, the film might have been better if it focused on Carol and Monica's relationship, at least more than the 60s seconds in the film. It juggled too many characters and gave too little time to develop Carol's, which she has in the film but it never hits emotionally because they don't take or give the time to develop it.

I just didn't enjoy it and I don't think I'll remember anything about this film other than liking Ms Marvels performance. That's just me.

I think this one will have some legs, solely on the fact that it's far better than anyone was expecting. 3/5 is a perfectly reasonable score.

@bobevanz - Do you literally have any life outside of slating Marvel movies on here? Honestly man you are on it like it's your job. It's users like you and origame that, over the last few years, have turned this site into an absolute toilet for anyone who actually wants to chill out and enjoy anything Marvel, DC or anyone else puts out. You relentlessly spam every single article with sarcastic, inane drivel, rubbing your hands together and salivating over the thought of a poor box office performance and ramming "I told you so" down everyones throat. Crying "woke" every time anything remotely non white, male or straight gets on the screen.

None of us are getting our hands on that box office cash fella. It is bugger all to do with us and there is no team that either wants or needs us on it. Go outside, touch some grass, shave that whispy beard off your neck and stop being such an insufferable c**t.

Gave it a 4. If given a choice it would be around a 3.75.

It’s a very fun movie with some things we haven’t seen in any other MCU movie to date.

Critics have criticized that the plot is messy, but IMO it was pretty straightforward.

My main knock would be the villain. She serves her purpose, but she’s not overly developed as a character. She’s more there to progress Carol’s arc.
Gabimaru
Gabimaru - 11/11/2023, 11:28 AM
It's not terrible. but it wasn't good either. Ms.Marvel owns the screen everytime she's in. she always reminds me of how tom holland spider-man is, and captain marvel was just fine. still no arc tho but she's actually kinda likable here but still bland, this should be her Winter Soldier movie like chris evan's. monica was just there i guess? spitting gibberish nonsense and good lord what have they done to nick fury like the first captain marvel and secret invasion didn't ruined him enough. lame villain like she just stepped out in cosplay convention or something. non-existent story like MCU just obligated to give brie a sequel when they have nothing to cook for her. that's how i felt in the movie.

Barely entertaining or just enough in certain moments, but terribly butchered in post.

@marvel72 - Or MAYBE...the film was actually good. Considering how people even rated it on THIS very site on top of the excellent audience score it's received so far. (84%)

Just because something doesn't appeal to YOU does it make it bad quality. It means others liked it just fine. The world doesn't revolve around you, little buddy.
