Nia DaCosta's upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, will feature Carol Danvers teaming up with Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau for an adventure that...well, we don't really know much more about the movie right now. We'd be willing to bet on the Kree and Skrulls factoring into procedings, and star Brie Larson promised fans a wild ride during a recent interview with Uproxx.
"I wish I could talk about it. I can talk about my feelings around it. I can say that," the Oscar-winner teased, understandably refusing to give any specific plot details away. "I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future."
"And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers. And it’s the thing that I love about Marvel, is that they continue to reinvent," Larson added. "They continue to do the thing that you just would never think would be possible in these films. And they’re not afraid to go there. So I’m super excited about what we did."
"I think there are some huge personal achievements of mine that I’m really excited about sharing, but you know, it’s fun to have a bit of a secret. And it’s fun to know that, when this film comes out, people are going to be delighted. And I get to keep that to myself for a little bit longer."
Captain Marvel was well-received by fans, though there were those that expressed disappointment with the "heroic" Skrulls and the somewhat convoluted way the hero was retconned into the MCU timeline. However, the movie proved itself an enjoyable experience, and it's no bad thing to hear that The Marvels is going to head down some crazier routes with a new filmmaker at the helm.
DaCosta proved she isn't afraid to go to some weird places with her Candyman movie, and seeing as Carol played only a very minor role in Avengers: Endgame, getting to better explore the character promises to be a lot of fun. As for Spectrum and Ms. Marvel, we're expecting them to play a key role in this story, likely helping Captain Marvel tackle another cosmic threat to Earth.
The Marvels is set to be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.
