THE MARVELS Star Brie Larson Says The CAPTAIN MARVEL Sequel Is "Bonkers" And Praises Director Nia DaCosta

The Marvels is set to be released in theaters next year, and star Brie Larson has now shared some hints about what fans can expect from the Marvel Studios sequel, teasing its "bonkers" screenplay...

Nia DaCosta's upcoming Captain Marvel sequel, The Marvels, will feature Carol Danvers teaming up with Ms. Marvel and Monica Rambeau for an adventure that...well, we don't really know much more about the movie right now. We'd be willing to bet on the Kree and Skrulls factoring into procedings, and star Brie Larson promised fans a wild ride during a recent interview with Uproxx.

"I wish I could talk about it. I can talk about my feelings around it. I can say that," the Oscar-winner teased, understandably refusing to give any specific plot details away. "I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future."

"And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers. And it’s the thing that I love about Marvel, is that they continue to reinvent," Larson added. "They continue to do the thing that you just would never think would be possible in these films. And they’re not afraid to go there. So I’m super excited about what we did."

"I think there are some huge personal achievements of mine that I’m really excited about sharing, but you know, it’s fun to have a bit of a secret. And it’s fun to know that, when this film comes out, people are going to be delighted. And I get to keep that to myself for a little bit longer."

Captain Marvel was well-received by fans, though there were those that expressed disappointment with the "heroic" Skrulls and the somewhat convoluted way the hero was retconned into the MCU timeline. However, the movie proved itself an enjoyable experience, and it's no bad thing to hear that The Marvels is going to head down some crazier routes with a new filmmaker at the helm.

DaCosta proved she isn't afraid to go to some weird places with her Candyman movie, and seeing as Carol played only a very minor role in Avengers: Endgame, getting to better explore the character promises to be a lot of fun. As for Spectrum and Ms. Marvel, we're expecting them to play a key role in this story, likely helping Captain Marvel tackle another cosmic threat to Earth.

The Marvels is set to be released in theaters on February 17, 2023.

Hopefully it will be the first good female led marvel movie.

WandaVision is the best so far, but that was a TV show.

@kingjoeg - Yeah it's sad we haven't gotten one yet. Captain Marvek sucked and Blacm Widow was just boring and the Taskmaster gender swap was predictable and stupid. But the addition of Monica and Ms Marvel and a new director I have a new sense of optimism for the sequel.

Although I'd also add Jessica Jones S1 as an amazing female led project if we're counting the Netflix stuff.

@Lilvic92 - Absolutely include Jessica Jones season 1. It was great.

@kingjoeg - 100% Like every Marvel Netflix series, JJS1 could have been a little shorter, but it was, to me, the most cohesive single season of Marvel Netflix. There was ONE story; side characters had arcs but they naturally blended into the main story and never outshone it. As much as I love DDS1, they still did things like shoehorning in the concept of the Black Sky into an otherwise very grounded season. DDS3 is probably the most cohesive after JJS1. Subsequent JJ seasons did not live up to to S1 at all. They had their moments, but, IMHO, too much time & energy spent on side stories and arcs I didn't care about.

The fact that she likes it terrifies me. I'd be very excited if she hated it. I'd then expect a much needed Rebecca Romain Mystic/Rouge cameo.

Hope it's good. The changes and reduction of Mar-Vell in the MCU adaptation has really soured me on the first movie. I still overall enjoyed it but that combined with jarring flashback placement and a non threatening climax make for one of my lower ranked MCU movies. Hopefully this one learns from the first and makes an overall better movie in the process.

I gotta admit, I’ve rewatched every MCU movie and series, but this is the only one I can’t get through because I always fall asleep. Three times I’ve tried. It is SUCH a boring movie. And I like Brie Larson in 21 Jump Street and Room, but her character is so dull so far. I hope they reinvent the wheel here because I have no interest at this point. Just a little curiosity I suppose.

That said, Ben Mendholsen was the saving grace of the film. Brilliantly charismatic and likeable actor. Somehow even Nick Fury was not interesting in Captain Marvel. How do you make Samuel L boring?

I just don't care for mcu captain marvel.

I like her in the comics. In this one hw tries to be tough but with all that trying it fails to seem natural.
Although her Ebony friend has a nice ass. I may see this movie for superbooty.

I only care about this for Kamala and Monica. Wanna see Carol get slapped down a bit too by Monica. Learn some humility.

@BritishMonkey - why she is in that cocky? I'm in and Thor is way cocky what to the point he gets annoying. Don't see anybody wanted them to get slapped which they did Tony guys ass beat by Steve and Thor got slapped around by Hulk lol. There's a difference between being cocky and being confident. Captain Marvel is confident like a role model should be just like Captain America she's not even bragged about what she can do(which is a lot). I love how you two could turn people against another person and that interview she did with Chris Hemsworth. I noticed that nobody post the other interview where Marvel move Chris to Scarlett Johansson's group and how Scarlett put Chris in his place about Tom Holland spoilers I shot him up by Saint Thomas is a grown man he knows better to release spoilers and nobody posted if say anything about it and he's very funny. How Scarlet knows Chris and the cast while Brie is new. After that incident they moved Chris into journey where Chris and Jeremy did the remainder of the interviews together.

I like some of you guys I don't go by with YouTube says and lies spread about Brie. I loved it the first movie as much as I did Man of Steel. Both movies are flawed but it was in the fault of the actors. Wonder Woman was good it's just Gail can't act and it gets very distracted, Brie and Henry are actually good actors in my opinion (that doesn't mean Gal can't get better in the future). Long story short I'm excited for this movie and I love how bad ass Captain Marvel is she is the Superman of the MCU and I love it!

I'm also one that wasn't that butt-hurt over the first Captain Marvel movie or the actress Brie in the lead. I've liked Brie ever since she was in "The United States of Tara" on Showtime. The only thing that really drove me crazy was how Fury lost his eye in the movie. That was a little too cute by a lot. Should have stayed with the comic version where he lost it by way of torture. Anyway, looking forward to this movie as I am with all MCU films.
