Will The Marvels prove to be a winner for Disney and Marvel Studios at the box office? Disney certainly needs a win, as the company is reportedly in financial trouble due to overspending on Disney+. There are even reports that Disney might be considering a sale to Apple.
Earlier this year, Bob Iger oversaw a company restructure that cut 7,000 jobs and slashed $5.5 billion in operating costs- with $3 billion of those cuts coming from a reduction in content production.
If Disney is looking to improve its bottom line and pacify worried investors, they have another speed bump on the horizon due to the fact that IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond has revealed that IMAX must honor its commitment to Warner Bros. and screen Dune: Part Two.
Specifically, Gelfond stated that Dune: Part Two will have an IMAX run of about five to six weeks during and investor earnings call.
Gelfond went on to speak on the rumors that the Dune sequel might delay its release due to the SAG-AFTRA strike and revealed that they're viewing The Marvels as a backup option.
"There's another great movie coming out around that time, which is The Marvels from Marvel, and we can't play it because we are committed to Dune. So, if Dune moves, we'll just go over to The Marvels, and having a Marvel movie as a backup is not the worst position to be in the world."

The Marvels is currently slated to hit theaters on November 10, 2023, while Dune: Part Two is currently scheduled to arrive a week earlier on November 03.
