Keanu Reeves Set To Star In Movie & Follow-Up Anime Series Based On His BRZRKR Comic Book

While it was heavily rumored when Keanu Reeves first announced his BRZRKR comic book, it's now been confirmed that he will indeed star in a live-action film and follow-up anime series based on the series.

Prepare for the most Keanu Reeves project of all-time as Netflix has acquired the screen rights to Reeves' BRZRKR comic book and have officially announced today that they are in the very early stages of developing a live-action film and follow-up anime series based on the eponymous Boom! Studios-published comic.

Reeves will produce and star in both projects, playing B, the hero of the story. While the live-action film will adapt the events of the twelve-issue limited series, the anime will further expand the universe by exploring different elements of the source material.

The synopsis describes the story as a "brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B" is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it.

The first issue of BRZRKR was released at the beginning of this month and to date, has already sold over 615,000 copies.

With the film still likely being scripted, it's unclear on when it may head into production, but until then, there's still plenty of Reeves coming our way this year and next. He recently wrapped The Matrix 4 for Warner Bros. and is slated to begin production on John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 this Spring, filming them back-to-back.

Why was this even a comic then? It's been talked about forever, but only one issue has come out so far. Why not just go straight to movie?

@Henchman4Hire - Because as Keanu Reeves sat writing, he had an entire package deal with Boom and Netflix already set, before the first issue was finished. The news broke on Key Collector way back. Nick drops some of us an email and inside info when a deal is set in stone. This was planned a few years ago. Keanu Reeves will have multiple films, the comic, and an animated run.

Sweet! I'm wicked glad I bought 6 covers! The Rod Reis variant has only 700 in print. That one will get a slab and hang on my wall.

I read issue 1 last week. It’s what you expect but it’s solid. It’s Wolverine but he’s the thousands of years old. So Old Guard-esque. Basically, this is all about the action more so than the story.

I like the idea of the anime more than the live action though.

@BlackBeltJones - The premise does sounds awesome, but do we know how is the USA government supposed to have that kind of intel?

So The Old Guard basically? I know nothing about it other than that synopsis

@Ha1frican - Old Guard, a little Wolverine, a touch of Sad Keanu meme. First issue was pretty excessively violent if you're into that kind of thing.

Man Snyder cultists are losing it on twitter, what a total travesty of fandom.

@Roodi - They confirmed that there will be no more “Snyderverse”, and are focused on making individual movies that are director-focused like Flash, Suicide Squad, and The Batman

@SodaBurps @Desrow - I second this. We need a link ☝🏽

And honestly they have no one to blame but Snyder himself for feeling let down. Snyder should have cut the Martian Manhunter scenes, Knightmare sequence and any other teases for a sequel and just end his trilogy/universe properly with maybe some closure

@Desrow - I saw that!

People hoping every WB project tanks, someone wrote except the Batman and other Snyder boys disagreed and hope that it fails horribly too.

Wild stuff.

@m1doriya - Thanks! I'm a die hard DC fan but people like that make me embarrassed to admit it sometimes. It's gut wrenching seeing iconic characters with such rich history being made a laughing stock. I'm hoping things get better with the Black Adam film as I love the JSA so much. If they get butchered I think I'll lose all hope.

Hey has anyone seen this response from Tom King concerning a fan question about Ava Duvernay's New Gods picking up where Zack Snyder left off?

@Superspecialawesomeguy - I honestly wouldn’t mind too much if the focus was on Apokolips and New Genesis.

I actually thought Darkseid looked and sounded great, they could always improve things and maybe brighten some things up but overall ... 🤷🏻‍♂️

It does start out with the "Sad Keanu on a bench" meme though! Lol

Sounds like Reeves is a good fit for this. Doubt we'll see it soon though. The comic's not even finished yet
