Prepare for the most Keanu Reeves project of all-time as Netflix has acquired the screen rights to Reeves' BRZRKR comic book and have officially announced today that they are in the very early stages of developing a live-action film and follow-up anime series based on the eponymous Boom! Studios-published comic.
Reeves will produce and star in both projects, playing B, the hero of the story. While the live-action film will adapt the events of the twelve-issue limited series, the anime will further expand the universe by exploring different elements of the source material.
The synopsis describes the story as a "brutally epic saga about an immortal warrior’s 80,000-year fight through the ages. The man known only as “B" is half-mortal and half-god, cursed and compelled to violence… even at the sacrifice of his sanity. But after wandering the earth for centuries, B may have finally found a refuge – working for the U.S. government to fight the battles too violent and too dangerous for anyone else. In exchange, B will be granted the one thing he desires – the truth about his endless blood-soaked existence…and how to end it."
The first issue of BRZRKR was released at the beginning of this month and to date, has already sold over 615,000 copies.
With the film still likely being scripted, it's unclear on when it may head into production, but until then, there's still plenty of Reeves coming our way this year and next. He recently wrapped The Matrix 4 for Warner Bros. and is slated to begin production on John Wick 4 and John Wick 5 this Spring, filming them back-to-back.
