Comics: Justice League's First Villain In Relaunch To Be Darkseid

Speaking on the Sirius XM Satellite Radio's Geek Time Geoff Johns and Jim Lee reveal that the first villain the rebooted Justice League will face is non-other than Darkseid.

Geoff Johns and Jim Lee discussed their upcoming reboot to the Justice League on Sirius XM's Geek Time, where they spilled the beans regarding who the first villain the team will face is. In a not so surprising turn of events the JLA will go up against Darkseid in their first arc. Darkseid has been nonresistant in the DC Universe ever since the events of Final Crisis.

From The DCU Blog:

On Friday, writer Geoff Johns and artist Jim Lee appeared together on Sirius XM’s “Geek Time” to discuss the launch of DC Comics-The New 52 and their first ever collaboration — JUSTICE LEAGUE. During the interview, they revealed the identity of the series’ first villain. What threat is so big that it brings together the team for the first time? If you don’t want to know who it is just yet, then whatever you do, don’t click after the jump (major spoiler alert!).

In the first story arc of JUSTICE LEAGUE, the villain needs no introduction: Darkseid

Not a huge surprise considering Darkseid is a pretty powerful and popular foe in the DC Universe. Sound off your thoughts in the comment boxes below. Check out DC's new 52 starting with Justice League out on August 31, 2011.

It would make sense considering he is a big enough threat to call Earths finest together.

SWEET!

So glad they're going with Darkseid right away, instead of trying to invent some new, uninteresting villain to try to tangle with the Justice League.

@mbembet- your entitled to your opinion but some of us are actually looking forward to this, the dcu needs this.

Great, as someone still fairly new to DC, I hope this will serve as a good way of introducing me to the apparently awesome villain without having to know his entire history!

No big reveal. The Cover for issue 3 had the justice league beating up what was obviously a band of Parademons... plus, Geoff Johns isn't big on creating new characters as he is on reinventing them.

It sucks that everyone's opinion/thoughts on Darkseid are all directly tied to his Smallville version.

Darkseid's been giving Superman shit since 1970!

@Mechagino: Sorry but Johns is nothing but fanfic plot wrapped in every bad-writing cliche there is.

RIP DCU

Redhood2k10: Yeah, I know he "killed" Batman, but apart from that, I've only seen him in Smallville...and that was [frick]ing awful, lol. :) Stuff like this is what's good about the relaunch, although I can't deny I'm still scratching my head over stuff like Robin being an "internship". We'll see I guess.

Out of all ofcthe villains I thin he's my favorite specially in the cartoons Michael ironside was the perfect voice for the lord of apokalips.

EasterBunnyKiller: Ha, TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY is partially right there actually. I never had any interest in any of the DC animated series' while I was growing up, and while I've read a lot of the classic Batman stories, it's only really been the past year or so where I've delved into the rest. I spent most of my money getting right up to date with Geoff Johns' Green Lantern, but made the mistake of starting Superman with the "Grounded" arc. That alone makes me grateful for the relaunch. I have a decent knowledge of the DCU, but not encyclopedic enough to know their entire convoluted history. In that respect, you'll have to "Make Mine Marvel". :)

@Intruder I can easily say the same thing about Marvel's news. Random shots of Thor kicking thin air is better than a mass fight on the set of TDKR? Sorry, but Marvel fanboys are the most hilarious people on this site.
