DC have announced via their blog The Source that Nicola Scott will be joining the creative team on Superman for issue #3, #5 and #6. Check out the press release below.

Fan-favorite artist Nicola Scott will be joining the SUPERMAN creative team, providing art for issues 3, 5 and 6. Jesus Merino remains the series’ ongoing artist, illustrating issue 4 and returning for the issue 7 debut of new writers Dan Jurgens and Keith Giffen.

Scott is under exclusive contract with DC Entertainment, and those familiar with her career will know her previous work with DC Comics’ BIRDS OF PREY and SECRET SIX. Most recently, she was announced as the penciller who (with writer James Robinson) would be bringing JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA to DC COMICS-THE NEW 52, and nothing’s changed there; she is still going to be illustrating those Earth 2 adventures when the JSA is ready to make their debut.

Superman #3 goes on sale from November 23rd.

That is some really high-quality art. Crisp, clean pencils, and the panels do a fine job of telling the story even without word balloons.

@Superguy stop hating on the iconic suit! Hater!!!!

What's wrong? Well, here we go again: Lines everywhere, high collar, that weird pointy thing in the end of the sleeves (which, btw, Scott forgot about), S shield shapes everywhere (shoulders, pointing to his crotch, his butt), kneepads, red pipping, armour, I mean, REALLY? Armour???? Superman wearing armour????

You wanna change, ok. But get a great design. Not some 90s Image wannabe armour. ;)

The first panel is an instant classic. I actually hope that they go very minimal with dialogue on that one. It shows the reader that he is "faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound." Incredible.

@superman78 don't forget "can't control his heat vision anymore". DcnU's "Superman" has the heat vision going on ALL THE [frick]ING TIME!

@Superguy by pipping I mean the read colouring aroung the end of sleeves and collar.

Remove the high collar too. High collar invokes royalty. That's why I feel it works for Aquaman. or GL,cause he's a cop.

Change metal armour suit for a indestructable kryptonian cloth (hey, if Supes cells absorb sunlight and become bullet proof, why wouldn't a kryptonian fabric have the same cellular thingamajig?)

I'll still prefer the iconic suit. But, make those changes and it would be a better attempt at modernizing the look. Better than MoS also.

;)

@NoRegrets didn't DC say Clark got all those t-shirts made in a store?

WOuldn't it be weird and kinda giving away his identity?

"Yeah, I made a bunch of t-shirts with that logo for this kid here"...

Oh, cmon, guys, another weak artist for Superman?! DC has only bullseye with Rags Morales.

This lady works fine, but nothing special for Supes.

Bring us Bryan Hitch, Olivier Coipel, Steve McNiven, or even Marc Silvestri!

Rent the guys!

Unfortunately, no art, as awesome as it might be, will EVER make Perez's narrationed writing style worth reading. His book has got to be the worst read i've ever had for a major character, in the history of my comic reading. Reading merely one of his issues is as excruciating as watching a movie on the tv channel for the blind. It's [frick]ing atrocious.

Dan Jurgens and Keith Giffen should've been on this since issue 1. And i don't even know how good they are or can be. I can't even recall reading anything from them but i'll take anything over whatever Perez is writing.

@ rbfn04 - the red pippings are there...just very small and almost un-noticable...

@ Catwoman1 - Supes has started out with wearing a tshirt and jeans cause thats what he was wearing for 10 years in smallville...

My only grip with the artwork is the S shield is too big on some panels...it completely dominates the rest of the costume which then add's too much red...other than that nice sequentials...(which is what matters!!!)

I am loving the younger Superman of Action Comics. He is a way more appealing character than the bland/aloof character showing up in Superman and JLA.

Something too about the the way the jeans and t-shirt semiotically tells you he's a man of the people. The liquid metal nazi costume he's wearing in Superman implies he's an alien military leader. Boooo.

@SteveRogersSon "There are no holes! You ara a hater!!!!!!! A hater, I tell you!"

@SuperSomething I know the pipping is there, what he forgot was the weird shape of the sleeves, that triangular this that extended over Supes hand ;)
Shaman
Shaman - 11/3/2011, 9:54 AM
BezierCurve- I'll definitely agree with that. It's my main issue with the suit. The look of it has kinda grown on me for the most part(No trunks), but the rest of it does symbolise something he was never meant to be, which irritates me to no end. I guess it's how their using it along side his new attitude. A good writer could make a similar designed suit look better, oddly enough.
rbfn04
rbfn04 - 11/3/2011, 9:56 AM
@Shaman @BezierCurve exactly what I've been saying, dudes. And, honestly, MoS's suit suffers the same problems, with it's military look.
Shaman
Shaman - 11/3/2011, 10:20 AM
rbfn04- True, but somehow, i think the collar could work for Supes with a slightly different design. I think the ensemble as a whole is very militaristic as you say. But the collar in itself is kinda growing on me as the lack of trunks is. But all the other details like the pointy cape, the things on his hands, the black S shield on the cape, the random lines all over him... that could be redesigned WAY better IMHO. And for me, the worse part of his suit is the shitty design the belt has. Seriously, of all the belt designs already in existence, you're telling me you can't come up with a better looking belt than that? That's your last straw? REALLY? Gawd...
rbfn04
rbfn04 - 11/3/2011, 10:31 AM
@SteveRogersSon cause you're and old fart!!! Hater!!!

But seriously now, I dont get why they can't say "hey, the fabric on the suit is kryptonian. It kinda suffers the safe effects as Supes does when exposed to yellow sunlight. Hence, super strong fabric".

@Shaman Man, I can't get behing the high collar. Specially since everyone and their momma (well, not their momma. It's comics, their momma would be wearingsome real low cut dress...) wears it.

Andwhats with the s shields everywhere. That bugs me immensly
