DCU VS MU

Tons of news from SDCC this year, but who is going to win the punch-out?

Unless you've been hiding under a rock, you should know that "The biggest fanboy convention of all time" has wrapped up and lots of news came out that we have been foaming at the mouth. The biggest surprise this year was the assembling of The Avengers for the first time. As iconic as this was, I can't help but seem to be outraged. Why? Several reasons mostly due in part by the lack of real information given to us by DC. Look, we know you guys have drastically changed your entertainment division by giving YOUR super guru a job. I am in fact speaking about Geoff Johns. This guy alone gives me faith that we could very well see the Justice League on screen. That is until I hit a realization..... WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING ABOUT IT? So far we have "Green Lantern," thankfully, which could very well be going in a very similar manner as "Iron Man" did. At least one can hope. But I am not satisfied. Specifically due to the fact that DC has such a rich history in their company with all their characters. These are icons we grew up wanting to be. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, hell even The Flash had his own show. Why is it they can transition into a hit show, but not a comic book movie. Only Batman has seemed to do this and Nolan wants to stick with his own world for some reason. Which leaves me to wonder if he should be the one in charge of production for the new Man of Steel movie. I know this was a bit of a tangent and I am by no means a "Marvel Hater," but if they can: Why can't DC do something just as magical?

This is the first time I've written so be gentle.

Marvel.Think of how much effort it would take for DC/WB to even catch up.So far, Marvel has 4 movies in the can, 1 filming and 1 starting up early next year. Not to mention the wheels are turning on Runaways, Doctor Strange and some Cosmic stuff. They also have a long list of potential projects.

DC has 2 Batman films, 1 Green Lantern filming and Batman 3 to start early next year.We also have talk of Superman, Wonder Woman and Flash, but not any definitive progress.

Marvel already has 6 projects, with at least 2 more definitely on the horizon.DC only has 3.DC even had a 3 year head start.

If DC is planning on putting out a JLA movie, I don't see it happening before 2014/2015.Marvel should be on their second Avengers by then.

i would have to say marvel , they are going in the right direction and have great supports. ( actors , directors, etc.) and could accomplish something that seem as hard the avengers. dcu has had great movies , but nothing that can match the succes of marvel

@prinzjoker..why do you say Marvel are sucking with their movies? So far they seem to be 3/3 to me. All the other movies(spiderman, fantastic four, x-men etc) are owned by other studios..where as DC actually have ALL of their characters under one roof.

@kes. yes they have many titles on the way...doesnt mean they will be good. plus yeah marvel can talk up they have nova, and silver surfer and what have you in development doesnt mean we'll get it for a while. and last but not least DC and Marvel are differnet why even compare the two. they are apples and oranges. good but different.

I like all the Marvel characters like Ironman, Spiderman, The Hulk, and Captain America in how they each have flaws and how people can relate to that but man DC has so much history and characters that have lasted just as long and just as cool like Batman, Superman, The Flash, etc. They are just starting off slow in my opinion and the JLA movie will hopefully come to be. I am split down the middle like both companies ;)

@Anthony: My two cents:
It's like Playstation vs. Xbox. Xbox ups the ante and Playstation MUST follow suit to keep up. Playstation ups the ante and Xbox MUST follow suit to keep up. In the end, the real winner is the consumer (us). It's like two sexy women fighting over you. Thats what this Marvel Studios vs. DC Entertainment is all about. Personally, I would gladly take a lap-dance from either one. IMO, Marvel Studios has awakened the sleeping giant that is DC Entertainment. DC is in a much better position than Marvel to bring the best of their characters to the big screen in a crossover style. Also, they'll be making they're movies AFTER Marvel does so they will be able to improve upon the mistakes that Marvel will inevitably make. It's not a question of, "if" WB/DC will make a cross-over justice league movie, but "when." It's going to happen. They have to keep up with their number one rival, Marvel. Hopefully, they'll do more than keep up with Marvel. Hopefully they will surpass Marvel Studios in every way (and I am a HUGE Marvel fan). It is a good day and age to be a comicbook geek. :)

haha. I can't believe that people are fighting over which will make better movies. Im definitely much more of a DC fan. I used to read strictly marvel (and superman), now im strictly dc. So i'd rather see DC movies bc i like the characters. But im psyched about all of the CMB's coming out. Including that of Marvel.

I'd rather see both companies produce top-notch films and expand the fan base.

Marvel has Iron Man and Iron Man 2 and Hulk (thus far). Spiderman 1 was good and the first 2 x-men are pretty good. Other than that they weren't too good. Some were down right AWFUL (Fantastic Four 1 & 2, X-men 3, Daredevil) And now Thor looks really promising and i havent seen much that i liked from Captain America.

DC has had some SICK movies, as well as some alright, followed by downright AWFUL.
The Dark Knight and Batman Begins were awesome, and green Lantern is shaping up to be incredible. Superman Returns really wasn't awful, just not right. Catwoman was ridiculously bad. Watchman was awesome too.

So they've each made some sick movies and some serious flops.

But in a fist fight of the characters DC wins hands down. (which is what i thought this article was about at first)

The difference (as I see it) is they WAY each Universe makes its movies. The House of Marvel has the luxury of farming out its movie projects to whomever they choose. Sometimes, it's a DISASTER (think 'FOX'), but MOST of the time it's for the win. That potentially may chage if Marvel's new owner (Disney) decides to exercise more control, but I don't see it happening if Marvel films keep performing the way they do. If Disney is smart though, they'll find a way to strong-arm Fox out of the equasion!

The House of DC is OWNED by Warner Brothers - meaning every potential movie property HAS to go through the WB Studios before we can see it. That means the SAME bean-counters at the WB pass judgement on what WILL or WILL NOT be made, rather than DC finding the right studio that sees the potential and shares the same vision.

Sorry to say but DC has always been and always will be childish, unimaginative and hyper-cheezy. That just my opinion..I could be wrong
