Which Character Will Dwayne Jonson Portray In The DC Cinematic Universe?

"The Rock" has given us some hints as to who he will be playing in the upcoming DC films. Now we play the guessing game...

So Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is still in negotiations with DC/Warner Bros. Nothing to this point has been confirmed but, he has revealed his cards a little… really it was just enough to keep us talking about it. Dwayne Johnson told the reporter (couldn’t find original source) he has three requirements:
  1. 1. “The first quality we were looking for was that he had to be extremely complex and have a lot going on.”
  2. 2. “The other quality was that he had to — the character we were looking for had to be well-known but never brought to life.”
  3. 3.” and most important — is he had to be a badass mother[frick]er, okay, and on a Superman level of power, where could throw down.”
  4. 4. This one I’m adding. I think the Mr. Rock so look is similar in build. I’m not against changing skin color but, flash better not be bulkier then Superman.
So… the goal is to pick the best/closest ones that cover those 3 out of 4 of the requirements.

Ares
The common thought out there is that a Wonder Woman movie is coming out in the near future. A Wonder Woman movie means a Wonder Woman villain. Her other options are Circe, Cheetah or some rogue Amazonian. There a few more option out there  with the Zeus blood line from new 52 and all, but I think it be a bit slow for a comic movie. Ares is the front runner in my personal opinion. Now let’s look at the requirements.
  1. He doesn’t have much going on, if he makes it to multiple movies, the Loki whistle will be blown out of proportions. Ares would be a one and done and I the Dwayne wants multiple movie contract.
  2. The character is known, just maybe not the comic version.
  3. Is this guy a stud and could stand up to Superman? Oh, hell yea. He would be great for another city destroying fight. Maybe Wonder Woman can do it in Central City.
  4. Perfect
I like him as Ares, I want it to happen. However I doubt it. Let’s say 8/10.

Black Adam
Black Adam is a fan favorite on this site and amongst the local comic book store.  Black Adam is the main Nemesis of Captain Marvel/Shazam/Billy Baston/whatever Marvel lets us call him. For Black Adam to appear they would probably need Shazam to appear has well or attempt Black Adam in a different franchise. Again Wonder Woman might be an option hero here. However, I’m against nemesis swapping like this for the movies.  So let’s go to the check list.
  1. Black Adam is one of the more complex DC character. There is the Isis story line, God complex, or even affairs in the Middle East. Again the problem here is that most villains won’t make it to multiple films.
  2. It’s hard to say how well known he is. Most comic book reader knows who Black Adam is, but to pin point the general public is pretty hard.
  3. Black Adam is a stud and with magic he could give Superman a heck of a fight.
  4. They look so similar to the point that if The Rock yelled Shazam he would turn into a 16 year old Egyptian.
This is another ideal situation, I would rather see Ares but, this makes a little more sense. 9/10. Would have been 10/10 but I can’t imagine Shazam in a Justice League movie or them making a big budget movie that would not lead more into a JL movie.

Darkseid
All hail Darkseid. Darksid been brought up a few times here and there, then quickly scoffed off. A Justice League movie is probably coming and I rather Darkseid then Amazo, Starro, and even villains that don’t end in O’s. Let’s see the listed requirements.
  1. Darkseid can complex or a simple brute. His reasoning for attacking earth has never made to much sense to me. We know there are weaker races in the universe but if they make it a grudge match with Superman for any reason it would work, maybe, I don’t know.  He has a lot going on if a Few New Gods are brought in, the Femme Fatale, Dassaad, and Mommy Dearest.
  2. Darkseid is probably the most well-known global threat in DC, maybe second to Brainiac.
  3. He’s powerful. Could take almost anyone in 1 on 1.
  4. This one is hard. He has the build and the height some time. There’s comics that he a few inches taller than Superman and other he clears 10 feet.
If DC/Warner can convince The Rock he would reach Loki level of popularity. 7/10

Hawkman
With a Justice League movie coming and my personal belief that Martian Manhunter would hurt it, they need to finish there roster.  Hawkman has different orgins so pick your pick. I decided to go with the Nth metal infusion from New 52 cause it appears to be the most powerful.
  1. Hawkman is complex if it’s the earth archeologist version of him. The Thenagarian version would be boring and there are enough aliens.
  2. This one might not be to Mr. Rock’s liking. I don’t feel like the male version of this hero is as popular as the female version due to Justice League cartoons.
  3. This is another one that might not work. He’s pretty powerful but not Superman powerful.
  4. The lookis pretty close. The built is there and sometimes Hawk man has a darker skin tone.
Before I typed it out, it made more sense in my head. 4/10

LOBO
This one I would never had thought of, read it in a comment. Again can’t find the source. When I read this one I laughed and then it made more and more sense. DC/Warner has talked about going to other companies and I don’t see A lister going, so why not him. Mind you I can’t imagine it being good unless a Rodriguez type of director is on it. Let’s look at the list.
  1. I’ve read a bit of Lobo and the more complex they made him the worse. So nope here.
  2. Lobo has a small cult following but outside of comic readers he is virtually unknown.
  3. If Lobo fought Superman it would be beautiful. It would be Superman taking hits and shaking them off then Lobo taking hits to regenerate. He is Bad@$$ enough for Dwayne Johnson liking.
  4. Rock can bulked out to Lobe, has the creepy charismatic grin, and if The Rock can gruff up his voice it be perfect.
It would be a good casting job but the way I read the interview Dwayne the Tooth Fairy Johnson wants to be in the main universe. 3/10

I had other thoughts who he could play such as: Killer Croc, Bane, Ubu, Kilowag and so on but they all seem to small of rolls. I know I left off Green Lantern/John Stewart. I did this because it’s been done and I don’t think it would work. Leave comment below. Later.

I think it's Black Adam.
It's not obvious proof but when asked about whether it was Black Adam or GL, and he said "well, GL has already been stamped"
And he said his character hasn't been portrayed before.
So maybe that is restricted to just film or TV who knows.

I'd prefer him to be Martian Manhunter, he is on the same strength level as Superman and a powerful figure himself.
The Rock is too likeable to be the villain and they could utilise his popularity more by making him a hero instead of a villain.

Lobo, he actually makes alot of sense. He could be DC guardian of the Galaxy. he can tie down to Earth and do whatever. And he actually has worked with the JL before

It would make no sense to be Black Adam, unless he is the planned JL villain, which could work...I guess. The only other way is straight up Public Enemies, and he replaces Major Force, with Captain Marvel replacing Captain Atom.

Lobo was actually going to be Guy Ritchie's film after Sherlock Holmes, but he shelved it to do Game of Shadows instead. Unless he comes back, or another director with vision for the character steps in, I wouldn't see a Lobo movie coming anytime soon.

And Lobo is like Blade, 30 Days of NIght, Road to Perdition, etc...a comic book movie that most of the audience wouldn't even be aware is a comic book movie, if done the way it needs to be. Yeah it'd be neat to see him facing off against the likes of Superman etc, but the character would work far better if he didn't have to be constrained into a universe. At least not at first.

What about the Hawkwrold version of Hawkman? That story was awesome.

It's Aquaman for sure. He said it's a well known character and not Green Lantern, so unless he's the Flash - which I doubt - he's Aquaman.

The Rock could also be lying about certain things.

It's not like he's going to say 'yes' if someone asks and blow the reveal.

I think the Rock is just evolving into a mountain as an actor, because physically the man is big.

In my own opinion and who i think the Rock could be playing taking into account of what he said about his character being more powerful than Superman i'm going to have to say the Rock could be:

Lobo.
Doomsday.
Ares.
KoonEl

The most likely candidates are:

Shazam
Cyborg
Martian Manhunter
Lobo
Captain Atom

If he did Martian Manhunter I would think only the alien form. The Rock built is pretty much the opposite of blending in.
