SDCC '14: Banner For Neill Blomkamp’s New Film CHAPPIE

Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9 and Elysium, has a brand new science-fiction film coming out next year, Chappie. Thanks to Collider we have the first look at a banner, which was erected at SDCC convention center lobby.

In 2009, everyone took notice of Neill Blomkamp's talents when District 9 became the sleeper hit of the summer. Its $210M revenue easily surpassed the film's meager $30M budget. Interest in his next project reached a feverish pitch. That project was the 2013 film Elysium, which starred Matt Damon ("EuroTrip"). It pulled in $286M at the worldwide box office against a budget of $115 million (minus marketing costs).

In 2015, we'll get to see his next offering. It will be Chappie, here's the official tagline: "After being kidnapped by two criminals during birth, Chappie becomes the adopted son in a strange and dysfunctional family. Chappie is preternaturally gifted, one of a kind, a prodigy. He also happens to be a robot." It stars: Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley.

Yeah Elysium was pretty disappointing after a fantastic debut with District 9. Hopefully this gets Neil back on track to being an exciting original director.

District 9 was an amazing film, but Elysium was bad.

Looking forward to seeing Die Entwoord in this one. Hopefully it's better than Elysium. Talk about beating the audience over the head with the message.

Although I enjoy Blomkamp's movies, I feel like he is a one-trick pony. I bet that if we were to see a still from his next movie (after Chappie), it could easily be fit into any of his other movies.

Yes.

I wonder if Die Antwoord's music will be in the film?

I just watched district 9, and it is an awesome movie. I actually hate mostly everything, and it is one of my favorites.
Elysium was terrible lol.
This doesn't sound interesting, but we'll see I suppose.

Loved District 9. Elysium was a step down but far from "terrible" as some people say. If you want a "terrible" sci-fi go on to IMDB's bottom 250 and I'm sure you will find plenty.

Really liked both. But he shouldn't have his heroes die or left hanging every time.
