This year's San Diego Comic Con takes place from July 18th - July 21st, but Deadline reports that many fans have been left empty handed after some frustrating technical glitches plagued those attempting to purchase tickets earlier today. Passes to the event went on sale at 9am PST and all of those were gone by 10.36am. However, for the second year in a row, the enormous demand led to the site crashing and confusion over how to obtain tickets. This has of course led to a negative backlash from disappointed fans who have missed out on the opportunity to attend the most gloriously geeky event on Earth. All hope is not lost just yet though as the official SDCC Twitter account later promised that, "A resale of returned badges may be held at a later date". Were you lucky enough to nab a pass to the event? Sound off in the usual place!

Comic-cons need to start being held outside...during summer...like in central park....take over the city type shit..no one should be denied. They do it for freakin stupid house music.

A group of ten us my friends went on to buy tickets right at the hour. One person got in at place 2k and got 4 tickets pretty fast. My computer said it was going to the waiting room within seconds, but the page never finished loading. One of my friends was at 10k, but after getting down to 4k it stopped refreshing and she never reached the front of the line. One more of us was able to get in (the rest of us were stuck with staring at spinning wheels on our screens, afraid that by refreshing we'd lose our spots) at place 36k but somehow beat everyone else in, even the person who had been at 2k. All in all, 8 of us got the tickets we were looking for. We're hoping to pick up some for the last two when the resales come around in a few months.

All said, something was seriously messed up with the buying process. Again. But at least it wasn't as bad as 2 years ago.

I got my 4-day badge. Took me about 50 minutes. When I last went in 2011, it took me 6 hours to get a badge. It was a nightmare.

@snik apparently some of the browsers weren't refreshing automatically like they were supposed to, so they never moved up and the system saw them as "giving up their spot" I was 1700 in line then I got kicked from the waiting room because it timed out completely. I refreshed the page and suddenly I was at 200 then got in a minute later.

O_o

Is this what I have to look forward to when I get my tickets for next years con? Goddamn, the really need to refine the way they sell tickets, give everybody a fair chance! Perhaps they could limit it to 1000 tickets every hour, because some people may not be able to get them that early, being at work and whatnot.

The system is the dumbest thing ever, I agree with Relentless, I did it last year and got screwed by some Mozilla thing they failed to mention, wanted 4 days, only got Thurs & Sun, all in all it was still an epic experience though, and I love SD

I hit the button right at 9. I mean literally on the dot. Unfortunately the browser just spun with a loading wheel. Never even made it to the waiting room. It is really frustrating because I never even had a shot due to technical errors. In my opinion they should do a lottery system where they send you an email if you were drawn and that will give you a chance to purchase 2 tickets. At least this way it would feel more fair, and not based on Internet connection or whether or not I pushed the button a millisecond slower/faster than anybody else. After the experience I had today I will probably not even try again until a few years down the road. I understand that not everybody is guaranteed a ticket, but to have server issues when you know your going to have massive amounts of traffic is inexcusable. This is just my opinion, I'm happy for those of you who get to go. I hope you all have a lot of fun.

Got passes for two days last August.I was hoping to upgrade to 4 days today but the waiting room page never fully loaded at 9am.By the time I got back out to the green clicker and tried again the game was up. I'm grateful I'm going this year, but I'm giving serious thought to not going anymore after eight years because of the crowding and insane ticket issues.

Anybody else out there who lives in (like I do) or can get to southern California this spring should consider Wonder Con as a plan B. I went to my first one last March in Anaheim and had a better time. The floor space was limited last year but that won't be a problem this year. The shopping experience was better then San Diego because the smaller crowd was not shoving.I could take my time flipping through comics and toys.

Wonder Con is starting to get major summer movie panels. On a Saturday, I was able to walk in on the Prometheus /Abe Lincoln Vampire hunter panel with no fuss. Later that day The Amazing Spider-Man held a panel.

DC /Warner animation has started using the event to role out world premires of movies like Superman vs the Elite last year and Superman Unbound this year.

There is a good chance that spring and summer films like the Evil Dead,Oblivion,Man of Steel,The Hangover 2 and World War Zand the Wolverine that didn't have much to show or skipped Comic Con entirely last year will show up as a last chance to create more buzz and in Man of Steel's case preview the third trailer ahead of it's april debut.Perhaps at a full MoS panel with Amy Adams and Michael Shannon joining Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder.

There are much shorter lines in for of the celebs, artists and writers. I really enjoyed
having the opportunity to talk with creative people without feeling the pressure to "move on" I get at Comic Con.

My heart goes out to those who get left out this year, but I just want people to
know Comic Con organizers have been setting up Wonder Con as a spill over event
since they have moved it from San Francisco 2 years ago and they intend to stay in Anaheim in some form of spring convention regardless of Wonder Con returning to the Bay area.(which is looking doubtful)

If your going to San Diego this year or not, give Wonder Con a shot.

How is the artist alley at WC? Decent names usually attend?

@Jayman109

The artist alley at Wonder Con was quite large, not Comic Con large but still very good.
Jim Lee was there last year and will be returning this March. Other artists coming this year are Doug Mahnake, Amanda Conner and classic artists like Boris Vallejo and Steranko.

I got really really lucky this year and when everyone else was timing-out and erroring I managed to get the 547 spot in the waiting room and bought two 4-day passes with preview night for my girlfriend and I. I'm still not entirely convinced I'm awake and that this is real life, not some overly realistic and convoluted dream. Afterwards in the manner of good form I gloated in a facebook status filled with all sorts of expletives.

There should be more SDCC's per year.

For us less smelly people with jobs that don't pre-anything.

Honestly this year wasn't as bad as last year. Last year we had the dreaded broken e-mail link that completely screwed a lot of people. Tickets didn't even sell out as fast as last year. Last year I was 14000 in line and managed to get 4 single day tickets, this year I was 13000 andmanaged to get 4 Day passes with preview night. The trick is you have to log on from more than one source. Can't wait to go back for the second year in a row

Should be big lines again for Hall-H this year.

Summet/Lionsgate,and Universal for Thursday.

Fox with a huge X-MEN day with The Wolverine/X-Men DOFP and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Heavy hitters like WB(Godzilla,The Hobbit) and Disney/Marvel/Lucasfilm on Saturday.

Too much.

Hit the button at 9, then got a message saying the waiting room was full and that it was sold out.

That was about eight minutes in,mind you...

So,went over and got a Sunday pass for Wonder Con. No line at all.Plus,it was ten bucks. Bonus.

The fact they ae holding Wonder Con next door to Disneyland in Anaheim doesn't hurt,either..
