Mark Steven Johnson's 2003 take on Daredevil starring Ben Affleck is probably not going to find itself on many best comic book movies of all time lists, but the Director's Cut is a definite improvement, and most would agree that it wasn't all bad.
Charlie Cox took over the role of Matt Murdock for the Netflix now defunct Daredevil series, and recently returned to make his MCU debut in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While speaking at the Middle East Film and Comic Con in Abu Dhabi, the British actor was asked if he has any "connection" to the much-maligned film.
"I hadn’t seen it before I got the role," Cox replied. "I watched it when I got the role and, to be fair, I think Ben Affleck does a really good Matt Murdock. I like his Matt Murdock… I don’t love the movie. I feel like the movie tried to do too much and it was a little tonally confused. They had everyone in that movie; they had Kingpin, they had Bullseye, they had Elektra, they had Karen Page, they had Foggy. It was saturated and it’s two hours. So that was part of that problem. And the suit sucks!"
It'd be difficult to find too many who'd argue!
Cox donned a back suit at first, but soon upgraded to a costume that was clearly inspired by the comics - although not everyone was pleased with the design. We're not sure where The Man Without Fear will show up next, but rumor has it Cox will don the character's classic yellow outfit for his MCU return.
In the meantime, you can revisit Murdock's debut when Spider-Man: No Way Home swings onto Digital on March 22, before coming to DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD on April 12.
