DC Studios Boss James Gunn Debunks Some Big Rumors About The DCU Including Supposed Slate

James Gunn may be in charge of DC Studios, but the filmmaker continues to debunk rumours on social media while responding to fans. The latest include wild claims about Booster Gold, a DC slate, and more!

Once Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is released, filmmaker James Gunn will focus solely on building the new DCU for DC Studios.

As well as creatively overseeing all the "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" projects, Gunn will helm Superman: Legacy and the Creature Commandos animated series (for starters). Despite being one of the busiest filmmakers in Hollywood today, he still finds time to talk with fans and debunk some big rumours.

For starters, Gunn dismissed a rumoured slate of projects that were said to be on the way. He also confirmed Hellboy star Ron Perlman was never being lined up for a role in Creature Commandos.

The DC Studios co-CEO similarly denied reports about Breaking Bad alum Aaron Paul being lined up to play Booster Gold before laughing off a wild claim he's replacing Zachary Levi's Shazam with a version played by Alan Ritchson.

Perhaps the most surprising debunking, however, is Gunn's sheer level of confusion at claims from directing duo Danny and Michael Philippou that they turned down the chance to work on a DC Studios project! The YouTubers received some attention with their claims but have now come out of this looking pretty foolish.

Take a look through Gunn's Tweets below.

Wow. Rapid fire debunking from Gunn!

@FilmGuy7878 - People can say whatever they want about how Gunn answers to every nobody on twitter, but this kind of nuclear debunking of fake scoops never gets old 😂

@SpideyPuffsMJ - that guy on the t-shirt kinda looks like Adam Conover.

Not that Conover is like that though. The real ''scoopers'' should get out though. Asking money for ''inside info'' is straight-up scamming imo.

@AmazingFILMporg -

Asking for facts is the only correct approach.

The meme is making fun of people who rely on scopes and biased sources for their “facts”

''If it doesn’t come from me or DC, it’s not to be believed.''

Shouldn't be too hard, but the internet will probably just ignore this and keep going.

And I don't know if there's a possibility to pin tweets on profiles, but Gunn should definitely pin this then so the children in the back also get this.

@ObserverIO - I think there might be, but Gunn is just not spilling it until he thinks the time is right.

It's like he says, only believe once it comes from him

@bkmeijer1 - sorry I deleted my comment before I saw your reply. Underneath the tweet Gunn clarifies that there is no truth to ALL of these projects being in Chapter 1, so there may still be a lot of truth to some of it. So yeah, there might be some truth.

bkmeijer1 - 4/14/2023, 10:43 AM
@ObserverIO - I didn't even catch that, but I suppose that could explain we might end up seeing some of this stuff.

Superman vs. The Authority and JL New Frontier does fall into what we can expect from Gunn I think.

@Repian - Tom King was mentioned to be an “architect” for the DCU so I’d be surprised if The New Gods didn’t have a role to play in the Gunn-verse. Ron Perlman would be a great addition.

Not sure how anyone could be concerned with corporate media outlets and government agencies being called out on their lies. I guess some people prefer to be lied to 🤷‍♂️

@AmazingFILMporg - Show me data proving your claim. Political banning was much more common under the old regime that took orders from the CIA and other government agencies. Didn’t realize you were such a fan of state sponsored social media sites. I bet China would love policies like that.

@AmazingFILMporg - OK so Kanye and Nick Fuentes is 2. Old Twitter did Trump, Alex Jones, and the Babylon Bee. There’s 3.

And yeah I’m really familiar with Matt Taibi. A former Rolling Stone contributing editor, lifelong liberal, and one of the few honest journalists left today. He’s doing great work, like others who don’t work for corporate propaganda news outlets. We need more like him, and fewer like those at the NYT, Washington Post, Atlantic and all the other news sources constantly lying to people.

Webster614 - 4/14/2023, 11:24 AM
@mountainman - People like simple. People like safety and security. People don't like to believe their government - especially that of the USA - could stoop to such tactics as state sponsored propaganda er... media (whether it be online or network television). People love giving up little bits and pieces of freedom so that they are "safe". So, people turn a blind eye to evidence pointing at the alphabet soup agencies controlling who is allowed on twitter/facebook/etc, what the MSM should and shouldn't report on. It makes them feel better about their lives. They choose to ignore the truth because the truth is scary.
mountainman
mountainman - 4/14/2023, 11:28 AM
@Webster614 - That’s it in a nutshell. Most humans are just walking around with their umbilical cord looking at where they can plug it in. They want a leader to tell them what to do and protect them. A brief search of history would tell you that the greatest atrocities in human history have happened due to blindly trusting the government. Never forget that Hitler was elected overwhelmingly and that both slavery and Jim Crow are government enforced policies.
Webster614
Webster614 - 4/17/2023, 12:27 PM
@mountainman - Hard for the younger generation to forget it when half of that stuff is hardly even taught nowadays. All they know is Hitler was a bad guy and did bad stuff. They have no clue the back story to him, or other tyrants in history reaching power. I'm not sure it would phase them even if they did. They just want daddy government to take care of them and alleviate them of all responsibility and accountability.
