THE BOYS And SUPERNATURAL Star Jensen Ackles Confirms He Was Once Eyed To Play DEADPOOL

The Boys star Jensen Ackles has revealed that Captain America and Hawkeye weren't the only superhero movie roles he turned down as Supernatural resulted in him missing out on playing Deadpool as well.

Jensen Ackles spent a huge part of his career starring in Supernatural, but with the series now at an end, he's looking to reinvent himself. That was evident from his role as Soldier Boy in The Boys, while the actor is also quickly emerging as a fan-favourite Batman voice actor.

While it's no secret that Ackles was once eyed for the role of Captain America in the MCU, that wasn't the only big superhero character he missed out on bringing to life on screen.

You probably don't need us to tell you that Ryan Reynolds first played Deadpool in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine, though 20th Century Fox completely dropped the ball on the Merc with the Mouth's portrayal. Thankfully, the actor eventually found redemption, reprising the role in 2016's Deadpool to widespread acclaim and huge box office success.

However, Deadpool was a character Ackles also came close to playing once upon a time.

"There was definitely a movie that I was very much in talks about. I wasn't available, so the train just kind of stopped there," he recalled during a recent appearance at SPN PHX J2 (via Screen Rant). "But, had I been available, I would've had to, you know, jump through the studio hoops and jump through the, you know, producer hoops and stuff."

"But I had a really good shot, and it's a movie that I really, really like. [What was the movie?] Deadpool. It was probably a good thing because my ex-girlfriend was on there and so that probably would have been awkward, so it probably worked out for the best. I think that whole cast was amazing. I probably would've messed that up for a lot of people had I been a part of it, so probably best I didn't. But that would've been cool."

We're guessing this would have been for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a movie released when Ackles was already a good few seasons into Supernatural. Along with Captain America, The Boys star also had to turn down the chance to play Hawkeye in Thor, proving just how committed he was to Dean Winchester.

Do you think Ackles would have made a good Deadpool?

I still want Jensen in the MCU or DCEU, he's a damn good actor and IMO deserves a lenghty part over a few movies to make some ungodly cash.

@Blergh - and I agree with this.

@Blergh - I just don’t get the appeal. He’s alright in the Boys but he was largely one of the reasons I found supernatural unwatchable. He seems like a nice guy but I just don’t think he’s a very good actor. I just don’t see him in the MCU.

@Blergh - I agree I can see him as MCU Gladiator or ARES or DC's Cap. ATOM or Red Hood

@DUNCAN1 - The easy pick is Cyclops, but that version of Cyclops is way down the line. I think he'd make an interesting Havok or Vulcan personally. Or, an MCU Cable and or Strife. I wouldn't mind him, shifting franchises, as Dante/Vergil either.

@Deklipz - Interesting, different strokes and all but I've followed SPN and over these 14 years he had some really good acting moments. Especially his comedic chops are a delight.

But it's fine, acting is subjective. Many love Jennifer Lawrence, I can't stand her acting. There's really no perfect judge on art.

@Blergh - True, I would so-so agree on Lawrence though. In some things she’s great (Mother) but mostly she’s just alright. 🤷‍♂️

@Blergh - I haaaaaaaaaate Jennifer Aniston onscreen. I’d rather gouge my eyes out with a full rusty nail than watch her do anything but drown.

I think it worked out really well in the end.

Reynolds is the better play but I could see Ackles playing Deadpool

With the knowledge my version of Lobo would have to be some form of cgi mixed with performance, maybe even forced perspective like Lord of the Rings... My point being, taking into account I see Lobo as a small Hulk and bigger even then Momoa, then it doesn't matter to me if the actor is cast isn't the perfect build. We can make him look right... that being said, I think Jensen would voice and facial capture a really [frick]in fun Lobo, and his body language and sense of humor and gruff attitude. I think it would be fun, if not an out of the box choice.

Never heard about the Hawkeye thing. I love Jeremy Renner as Clint, but damn Jensen Ackles also would have been perfect for that character.

@DanFlashesShirt - Jeremy Renner IS Hawkeye!

@TheOtherOn - no offense to Jeremy or Jensen, but with enough screentime anyone would make certain characters their own.
The same way no one can imagine anyone else as Dean Winchester.

Given enough time...
