When the first trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was released, fans spotted a character they were sure might be the Superior Iron Man. With rumours swirling that Tom Cruise might make a cameo appearance as a Variant Tony Stark (the actor was eyed to play the Armored Avenger by Paramount Pictures in the mid-2000s), it's a theory that was pretty easy to get on board with.
Recent footage has instead pointed to the character being a Captain Marvel Variant - likely Maria Rambeau - but we continue to hear chatter about Cruise potentially showing up as Iron Man.
A darker Tony being part of the Illuminati wouldn't shock us, and Cruise playing him would be pretty freaking cool. Unfortunately, GWW's KC Walsh, a relatively trustworthy scooper, has taken to Twitter to suggest that there's "zero" chance we see the actor suit up as Iron Man in this sequel.
With Sir Patrick Stewart's return as Professor X all but confirmed, we've no doubt Marvel Studios still has plenty of surprises planned for us in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Some have possibly leaked online, though extensive reshoots that took place late last year are believed to have added a number of cameos that were likely absent from those early test screenings.
We may not find out for sure until we sit down to watch the movie in theaters, though there have been rumblings that a full list of cameos could surface online before then. We'll keep you updated.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness arrives in theaters on May 6.
