Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has the potentiual to be be Marvel Studios' biggest movie yet, and we're fully anticipating being taken on a wild, wonderfully weird ride. With Sam Raimi at the helm, the sequel has a definite horror vibe and appears to be a good mixture of creepy and crazy if some of the action-packed visuals we saw in that latest trailer are any indication.
During a recent interview with Vanity Fair, star Benedict Cumberbatch was quick to make it clear that fans should expect the unexpected and not just two hours of over-the-top special effects."It's a big moment for Strange," the Oscar-nominee posited.
"We can bring our game to this large tentpole fare and give it an authenticity and a heartbeat and something that makes it not just effects-laden nonsense."
While the Doctor Strange sequel clearly features its fair share of visual effects, a strong story and idea at the heart of the movie should ensure that the spectacle doesn't overpower what this adventure means for characters like Strange, Wong, and the Scarlet Witch. All three are likely to be vastly different on the other end of this story, while America Chavez's MCU debut could also be significant moving forward.
Somewhat ironically, the first Doctor Strange movie was praised for its mind-bending visuals, but criticised for a story that felt all too familiar. If the team of Raimi and Loki Head Writer Michael Waldron have found the perfect balance, then we'll be in store for an even bigger treat than expected.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be conjured into theaters on May 6.
