WHAT IF? Trailer May Reveal First Look At DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS' Villain

It's beginning to look like What If? will have bigger ramifications for the Marvel Cinematic Universe than we first thought, and the trailer may reveal Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' villain.

It initially appeared that What If? might be a standalone series unrelated to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, if promo art for the show - not to mention the latest trailer - have confirmed anything, it's that these alternate versions of familiar faces will interact and possibly even unite as the "Guardians of the Multiverse."

Like Loki, the animated series will likely better familiarise us with the concept of the Multiverse, something that's bound to be further explored in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Now, it also looks like What If? could introduce us to the big bad who is causing all these strange goings-on.

It's previously been reported that the monstrous Shuma Gorath sets his sights on Xochitl Gomez's America Chavez because he wants to use her powers to have complete control over the MCU's Multiverse. For those of you who don't recall, Chavez has the power to jump freely between realities, and for an all-powerful creature such as this, being able to make reality itself bend to his will by travelling from world to world would obviously make him an unstoppable force.

As you can see below, a possible first look at Shuma Gorath may have been revealed in the What If? trailer, and his attack could be what unites Captain Carter and this version of Doctor Strange.

It's hard to say for sure, but this series may be more important to the MCU than any of us realised...

I'm weirdly confused but also very happy at Shuma groath being the villain in Doctor strange 2. Such a strange choice but yet fitting to Sam Raimis sensibilities. Although I would hope he's not also the main villain of this show as it would feel a little sad to have the same main villain for 2 different projects like this. I would much prefer if the what if characters had to fight marvel zombies or something

@Mrcool210 - I'm just not the biggest fan of What If being used to unite a team of multiverse characters. I would have much preferred an anthology series with each episode being its own standalone story.

@CorndogBurglar - I was honestly expecting the stand alone stories to happen and that's it.

@CorndogBurglar - Would prefer if they just did the Exiles instead.

Looks like a cool show and animation allows for them to go big without budgetary concerns. I just hope Waldron takes the depth he has provided Loki and does the same with Strange. Dr Strange has been a fairly shallow character in the MCU thus far, and after watching Cumberbatch in The Courier the other night, just a great reminder of how extremely talented this man is at his craft. Strange should be arguably the Iron Man of this iteration of the MCU in terms of importance so I’m really hoping Strange 2 elevates his character the same way Cap 2 elevated Cap. Waldron understands how important it is to let emotional moments breathe without bastardizing them with humor. Which isn’t something a lot of the MCU writers know how to do well. But he gets it man Loki has truly become one of the deepest characters in the McU and he’s been gifted quite the arc thus far

Wasn't really interested by the trailer. It may have just been the first scenes Tony voice actor sounding so bad to me that took me out of it, but yeah, this isn't my cup of tea I believe.

@DannRamm113 - what’s weird is they got everyone else back but RDJ, not as if money’s an issue to afford him so I was curious why he’s not in it. Definitely jarring hearing such a different voice

@DannRamm113 - Yeah it sounds like the same voice actor they use for Ironman in every other media, personally im not a fan of his nasally voice, I guess thats what they think RDJ sounds like

I wonder if the evil scarlet witch will be connected to evil dr strange in this series

@PantherKing - maybe the Darkhold works as the necronomicon and shuma gorath is this kind of Cthulhu

Is Shuma Gorath confirmed for Multiverse of Madness? Because otherwise I doubt Gorath is both a villain in this and in the Doctor Strange sequel

So is this show canon? Like is it supposed to be Dr Strange traveling through the multiverse and seeing all this? Where we potentially see and hear about this in his second movie? Or is it just a cartoon?

@MarcianooM - it's canon in that it's in the multiverse we're being introduced to... I don't think the show is Dr Strange travelling through all the time though maybe here and there.
I think a few episodes will be throwaway while others end up interconnecting.

How many episodes is this going to be? If it's say ten,it's going to take ages to get through this if it's weekly.

After Loki it's going to be a long drought on Disney + for MCU content for me. I have zero interest in a weird cartoon that has nothing to do with anything. After years of garbage animation they blow it with "What if"??? What if deez nuts!!!
