Fantastic Four Reboot?!!

Fantastic Four Reboot?!!

Seems that the rumor mill is chatting it up that Fox is planning a complete reboot of the successful but not fan appreciated Fantastic Four franchise.

IESB is reporting that they've heard word around town about a Fantastic Four reboot.

With Daredevil already getting the once over and Planet of the Apes also in the running for a new start with a prequel in the works Fantastic Four is joining the reboot gang.

The two films previously released never really caught on with the fans and the studio is reportedly looking to completely retool, recast and recrew the franchise. This means no Tim Story, no Iaon, no Julian (thank the maker, he never sat well with me as Dr. Doom), no Chris, no Chiklis and no Jessica.

The first Fantastic Four in 2005 pulled in over $330 million worldwide and the second film, Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, opened in 2007 with a total box office take of $290 million. Both made money and were commercial successes but the reviews were lackluster and the fan reaction was mediocre.

The franchise is looking to be "less bubble gum" this time round following the Iron Man template, which was a complete success in reviews and box office take but a bit darker when it came to its superhero. Iron Man was in no way as dark as The Dark Knight but was funny, action-y as well as a bit on the serious side.

Now who do you want as Mr. Fantastic this time out? Which director would be the best choice to bring this story to the screen once again?"

I for one do not think that the Fantastic Four movies were as bad as say Superman Returns. If fox truely wants to make this once successful franchise a blockbuster hit then they should just change a couple things about the next installment. For instance please change who plays Dr. Doom!! Please hire a director that will portray the movie as it should be portrayed, as in showing the hero's/villins as they were in the comics or even close would be a good first step. The fan boy hype of FF2 was being able to see Silver Surfer in the movie and then the realization that if Silver Surfer was in the movie we would also get to see Galactus. But what we got to see was a cloud. I see clouds every day were I live. Not every movie can be Iron Man, the studio needs to leeve the Iron Man franchise to itself and create one that successfully represents The Fantastic Four.

I must confess I liked the second movie more than I did the first. But being a simple and humble comic fan, I look forward to any new Marvel movie. What a sad person I am lol

Frank - you actually LIKED the second film over the first?! Galatus was a cloud, for god's sake (ooo, sooo scary!) and the plot was for sh!t!

Prize - the 'first' movie technically doesn't count because it was never released. I've got a copy (don't ask how) and after watching it, I know why!

Well, you know what they say, "Third time's the charm." Hopefully it's true in this case...

yeah i really dont see the point in this. The first movie sucked and the only good thing about the 2nd one was Surfer. But as bad as the movies were they were pretty decent adaptations! I mean no offence to FF fans but theres not exactly much more to the comics than there was in the movies so what would be the point?
Matowar

I kinda agree with joob234, I want a Dr. Strange movie! However I thought the FF was an ok movie, I would like to see a 3rd installment. They just need to go more comic bookish (is that a word?). They could really make the FF into something special. Also when are they gonna make a Namor movie? He is way cooler than Aquaman.

There is nothing you can possibly do with Mr Fantastic or the Thing that would make this franchise work. They suck, plain and simple. The comics suck, the cartoons suck and both movies sucked! It is a "doomed" franchise to begin with. And adding spock in a speedo talking to jelly fish sure as hell won't help!!! Roar is right, the only decent thing ever to come out of those movies was Silver Surfer. What is it with Hollywood and freakin reboots?!?!?!?!?

"How dead is that horse your pokin' at there Charlie?"
"As dead as it gets!"
"Cool, tape wooden sticks to make it hold up and well make sound effects."

If the first Fantastic Four movie got shelved because it was so bad and the two that Marvel deemed good enough to be released theatrically were complete and utter pieces of shit, I can only imagine how bad that first one was.... Actually, no, no I can't even imagine lol.

I agree with SirPrize, Fantastic Four is never gonna click with movie audiences, they need to just let it die and move on to something more marketable. The two Fantastic Four movies are in contention for the worst comic book movies I've seen, throwing some blood and a few night scenes on the franchise won't solve that. Not everything is destined to be Hollywood gold, certainly not by following the dark-and-gritty formula. If Marvel wants a dark-and-gritty movie to follow the success of Dark Knight, try revamping Daredevil or Ghost Rider. Nobody wants to see Fantastic Four again, not even if you promise to kill Johnny Storm.

...Okay, MAYBE if you kill Johnny Storm...

Damn Shaman you hate everything. DBE, tony hawk and now the F4? god damn let people make their money. you should make a movie so people can hate you

they should make a U.S.Agent movie

I don't know if there is anything left to say after Roar and Shaman got done. I mean they hit the nail on the head. F4 sucky with exception of SS. Leave it be I don't want to suffer through another one of these films, There is so much more they could be doing. I mean I for one would love to see a Captain Mar-Vell movie, not from Fox but I would love to see that.

And Aquaman is so much cooler than Namor with those little wings on his feet that serve no purpose underwater.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Marvels movie. This way no one superhero can take center stage. The way I picture it, it would be a really great experience.
TylerDayspring
TylerDayspring - 3/9/2009, 1:38 PM
screw this. as much as i would like to see the ACTUAL Galactus ripping in to a city instead of a giant cloud, or super skrull bruning civilians alive, or even Thanos or Moleman, i do NOT want to see another FF movie. the two in 2000s and one in the 90s. enough of that. I would much rather see a daredevil remake, or more focus on the Xmen First Class movie. Fantastic Four isnt supposed to be DARK like the dark knight and sort of like iron man. it IS supposed to be bubble gummy. if they wanted to do something for the fans, making FF dark would NOT be it. it would actually be the exact opposite. a desperate move to get more box office money.

@Cornelius- Dr Strange OR Namor would be tight. Or maybe Hawkeye? ORRRRRRRRRRR Scarlet Witch/Quicksilver

I would really like the idea of Hawkeye. from birth, orphanage, to The Avengers. cameos by Swordsman and Trickshot. Ironman and and black widow. it could end like Ironman did. it could come out after the avengers. and therefore setting hawkeye up to be in the sequel. the sequel being the avengers that are in the first movie plus some recruits. anyone? :)

sorry im just blabbin. but that WOULD be tight

Hawkeye = awesome

Christian Bale, Ed Norton, Chris o'donnell would be a good hawkeye

@sirprize

007 as Dr. Strange = epic win

The second movie caught a lot more of the spirit of the comics (even though cumulonimbogalactus was lame as hell). This franchise could work with a more Iron Man-like feel to it- more serious, but not necessarily "dark". These are good characters, and can work well if they just have a good script. One more thing- no Doom on the rocket!!! Doom's correct origin could be captured in less than a minute- maybe even behind the opening credits.

I gotta' agree with most of you, the only thing cool that ever came out of the FF were the 'villains' (Silver Surfer, Doctor Doom, Namor, etc.). Everything else about it blew! I know I'm gonna' get reamed for this but... if they're gonna' reboot a franchise, how about 'X-Men'? Let's face it, Singer's version SUCKS (yeah, I said it- who wants some?). The man (by his OWN ADMISSION) does not read comic books and does not like comic books, yet he directed three comic book movies (two 'X-Men' and a 'Superman') based on stuff he 'pieced together'. His 'vision' blew, totally distorting the essence of both lines and characters (Ror's gonna' rip me a new one for 'Superman Returns'). I say redo it, and redo it RIGHT! Get the ORIGINAL X-Men (not this BS conglomeration that Singer cooked up). Or if need be, have the original team already established and introduce the 'new' members (Logan, Storm, Colossus, etc) in a similar fashion to 'Giant Size X-Men #1'. And for god's sake - get somebody who knows how to coordinate fight scenes properly!! I'm tired of watching fights with uber-ninjas like Wolverine, only to see them hack and slash! SINGER BLOWS!!!!!!!

Fantastic 4 was just a mess of a movie. Theyt got owned by The Incredibles and their gags were lame. If they do reboot they should focus on the sci-fi elements. I didnt like the way that no one was suprised that aliens existed in FF2...they should just quit actually

it was ok..then again i waited to buy both on DVD.
I'm getting tired of reboots. id rather someone keep the storyline, make a bridge and go on with the new and improved...even if you hire all new cast.

Like the Hulk.
I like the first one because it was something new and different, but when Ed Norton took the reigns he gave it the comic book mixed with tv show legs that it needed.

After his direction the Hulk shouldnt need to be rebooted again.

Nor iron man.

Anyway,
sure reboot the movie...not like its costing me anything or stimuls money HA !

I totally agree with most of y'all.....they should just scrap the whole FF franchise...the movies were okay nothing spectacular i watched both of them on DVD....marvel should concentrate on other comic books...i like the dr strange idea..but does it have the potential of being a big franchise....does it have a big enough fan base...all these questions should be asked but as far as who should play him....i agree with sirprize 100% pierce bronsnan all the way....and about him sucking as bond...i definately do not agree i think homie was one of the best bonds ever...but everyone is entitled to their own opinion...

ThunderCougarFalconBird - 3/9/2009, 2:21 PM
I actually thought both movies were very true to the source. But then I think the comics (and cartoons) were sh*t! The characters were nothing but pansy-ass half wits with no substance and the whole "world" they were a part of was just lacking on every scale compared to comics/cartoons like x-men and spiderman. The only good thing about FF, comic, cartoon or movie was Silver Surfer. So why re-boot when they've already nailed the wooden sh*t it is!
