BOX OFFICE: KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD Likely To Bomb With $25 Million Debut

After that first wave of awful reviews, the bad news keeps on coming for Guy Ritchie's King Arthur movie as the big budget fantasy epic looks set to crash and burn when it opens tomorrow...

We probably should have guessed that King Arthur: Legend of the Sword would be a flop as soon as Entertainment Weekly released a first look in the form of a cringeworthy photoshoot featuring shots of Charlie Hunnam lying in a boat stroking his sword, but that's been all but confirmed now by The Hollywood Reporter. As of right now, the movie looks set to debut in North America with $25 million.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is understandably expected to stay at #1 with upwards of $60 million, while Amy Schumer's Snatched is looking at around $15 million, a disappointing figure for the actress.

King Arthur was envisioned by Warner Bros. as being the first of six movies in the vein of The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. It cost a whopping $175 million to produce BEFORE some pretty big marketing costs, so short of a massive performance overseas, a sequel is already looking unlikely.

@NiceBillCipher - This is sad news. I just got out from watching it. Just saw it! a fun and good movie! I want to see it again. I love Guardians of the galaxy 2, but it will once again rain over this weekend over King Arthur sadly. I dont know how anyone gave this movie such bad reviews. Stop reading into movies like they need to have some mind blowing story. Its a King Arthur story with a twist on it. And it was great.

I'm a big fan of Charlie Hunnam, but unfortunately I don't think he's a Major Leading actor.

@McGee - I love a good Arthurian movie, so it's sad to see. I'll still watch, but not in the theaters. I would rather show studios support that are making GOOD films and not rubbish to bring folks in with eye candy.

Not sure why Charlie agreed to do this sh*t. Maybe the rent was due.

So much Arthurian lore to use, and they turned it into fantasy film just using Arthurian references. From the first trailer I knew it was a lost cause. They couldn't even set it in the correct period. No way it gets to 6 films, much less 2.

1. Charlie Hunnam is not A listing headliner. He is the poor man's Taylor Kitsch
2. Movies based on King Arthur have never had Blockbuster success
3. Guy Ritchie's take on King Arthur may have been too extreme for some.
