Warner Bros. and Legendary Studios, as well as producers, have been moving frantically to get the sequel to this spring's box office hit "Clash of the Titans" moving into production. This includes the search for a new director, as Louis Letterier opted not to return for the sequel.
There are a number of people that are interested, but the only name the article mentions is Jonathan Liebesman. Most people know him from his work on "Darkness Falls" and the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" sequel. Recently, he has turned more towards the action genre. His latest film, "Battle: Los Angeles"-- about an alien invasion of Los Angeles--opens next year.
The second installment of "Titans" will be shot in 3D, instead of converting the film, which was one of the largest complaints of the 2010 hit. The main reason why they are pushing for the January 2011 date for filming is to make sure that star Sam Worthington will be free to film. If they wait too much longer, producers and executives fear he will be too busy with the "Avatar" sequel.
No word on whether any of the other stars of the first film-- Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes, etc-- will be returning. I think we can expect to see this film be put together and into production pretty quiickly.
