Del Toro Confirms 3 "Hobbit" Cast Members!

It was a safe bet these three would be back anyway..but its good to hear it from the man in charge! Thanks to firstshowing.net for the scoop.

Guillermo del Toro appeared as a guest on Simon Mayo's BBC Radio Show yesterday (via TheOneRing.net) and spoke a little about "The Hobbit". Information has been sketchy on this and continues to be because apparently Del Toro knows as much about the movie at this point as we do! But he did confirm the return of 3 heavy hitters from the LOTR franchise..

Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, and Andy Serkis as Gollum.

Del Toro also mentioned some other plot elements..

"There is a whole other chapter, so to speak, which is the comings and going of Gandalf which are dealt with — people that know the lore know that Gandalf was delayed with a crisis… with a character that is very shady called the Necromancer that proves to be Sauron."

I think its now officially mandatory to be exited about this movie!..even if it is 3 years away:(

YESS!!! @ Rorschach

I completely sympathized...I feel the same undeserved and unyielding hatred for him...yet I have no idea why?!

It's like, "man, I can't wait for this movie to come out, but I hope his plane crashes on the way to the premier"

IDK WHY?!?!?

I'm very pleased to see that Andy Serkis is coming back as Gollum. He really did a fantastic job of bringing him to life in LOTR, and is the only one I'd want to see playing him.

Overall, I'm really encouraged by the news I'm hearing so far about the Hobbit. I like the director, the casting I'm hearing so far, and Peter Jackson is involved. I've been a big fan of both the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings since high school, so I really want to see them get this right.

Johan: agree 100%. They've got two films, let's see nothing cut out, but nothing added either. I don't like padding in movies.

I want to be a plumber in your new Utopia. I love whiskey and look ridiculous in a tool belt.

Necromancer? That could be sweet. I'm excited. I doubt they'll pick anyone canty to play Bilbo. These guys are solid. It's secret, it's safe.

All this fantasy jizz is a bore... and what's it got to do with comic book movies?

REALLY?

I love Del Toro and I'm sure that these films will be great, but can't we deal with these movies on Tolkien dot com or some other wank?

good, the movie wouldnt be the same without all these actors that ARE the characters. the guy who plays gollum is positively genius. its a shame, so much hype is built around the special effects of gollum, that no one ever honors the SUPERB acting job that Serkis delivers

gerant: Fortunately, most EVERYTHING these days has been given the comic book treatment (present film of topic included), so technically, we are!.. ;-)

I always understood that the spirit of this site was to provide news and a place for discussion on all topics that relate to comic books and that fans of comic books might be interested in. I mean come, chances are that if you enjoy comic books you probably also harbor some other "nerdy" tastes as well.
