GHOSTBUSTERS Spinoff Starring Channing Tatum & Chris Pratt Is Being Developed

We all know that Bridesmaids director Paul Feig is working on a female-led Ghostbusters reboot, but what you didn't know is that Sony is also developing a spinoff which would star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt ("Guardians of the Galaxy").

Director Paul Feig is currently working on his female-led Ghostbusters reboot for Sony, which we know from recent leaked emails could feature Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Amy Schumer, Lizzy Caplan or even Ryan Gosling. Though, that might not be the only Ghostbusters film in Sony's pipeline. According to emails that The Daily Beast has viewed, Channing Tatum ("21 Jump Street") pitched Sony executives on a Ghostbusters film that would be a spinoff of Feig's. Tatum wants to star in it, alongside his 10 Years co-star, Chris Pratt ("Jurassic World").

An email from Tatum to Pascal concerning Ghostbusters dated August 21 says, “Let us show the world The DarkSide and let us fight it with all the glory and epicness of a HUGE BATMAN BEGINS MOVIE. I know we can make this a huge franchise. Fun adventure craziness. COME OONNNN!!!

The next day, Hannah Minghella, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, sent an email to Amy Pascal outlining Tatum's plan, which also includes the Russo brothers ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") as the film's producers. Who would possibly direct it? The Russo brothers would like Paul Feig to do a Ghostbusters double dip, and direct it as well.
“So… in a curious turn of events - the Russos and Channing want to develop Ghostbusters as a vehicle for Channing and Chris Pratt to do together,” wrote Minghella. “The Russos, Channing and Reid have been brainstorming ideas and want to create a whole new mythology that would support multiple movies (the way that Nolan reinvented Batman). To be clear - the Russos want to produce (not direct) and while Channing and Chris are looking for a movie to do together they haven't mentioned this to him yet because they weren't sure how we'd react. They want to make it simultaneously super scary while also super funny. They love the idea that they are mortal heroes who are believers in the paranormal and the only people who can defend mankind from a paranormal threat. I know we're mid negotiations with Paul [Feig]. I'm not sure whether we'd ever develop two different versions simultaneously. Joe Russo is open to the idea that both movies could be developed in partnership so they compliment one another within the same Ghostbusters universe. Apparently the Russos are very close to Paul and Joe suggested Paul could be attached to direct both. Personally I think it's possible for the female version to co-exist with this other version so maybe they're not mutually exclusive.”

How's that for a slice of fried gold!

No I'm saying that because unlike Rebel Wilson and Melissa McCarthy, Tatum and Pratt are actually funny. The lesser of two evils if a reboot happens, which I sincerely hope doesn't.

Chris Pratt is going to be a part of every franchise now apparently. Good for him :p

I doubt Rebel and McCarthy will get it. Sounds like theyre gunning mostly for Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone.

I have to ask a thing. Why not do a crossover with Ghostbuster and MIB if they want to have a crossover? That would at least have something in common and make more sense the 22 jumpstreet and mib

FordEl - 12/15/2014, 12:19 AM
Chris Pratt should be careful about that. Audiences will get tired of him very fast. He should diversify his projects.

That raises a good question though, does that mean both films will only have duo teams? Why not just combine both teams together to make them the new Ghostbusters? But I guess everything needs to be a cinematic universe now :p

@Emblemmaniac

Now that's a crossover I'd be willing to see

Create new franchises. With the amount of talent that I know they have in Hollywood they should really be working on creating something new and refreshing instead of "reinvigorating" past franchises. But I guess new ideas can be exspensive risks.

Pratt had a pretty good acting career in 2014. Small role in Her, main voice lead in The Lego Movie, and the star of GOTG. That's a pretty good cycle to do with your acting career without oversaturating yourself.

Crossovers are the new young adult fiction adapted movies.

Ok now i'm conflicted. Ghostbusters is my favourite all time movie and I'm against any remake what-so-ever, but I really like Chris Pratt. If he stars in a ghostbusters spin off/reboot my head will explode. Don't make me hate you Chris's Pratt!

What is the point of a spinoff for Ghostbusters? Sounds like they just want to make the fans happy by giving them a all male cast.

I like the idea of a all female Ghostbusters movie, it will make it feel more fresh. Never understood why people get so mad about about it....other than them just not wanting a reboot at all, I get that.

Regardless, I'm down for the all female cast and the spinoff if they get some good actors.

If this is true then you might as well throw Jonah hill in the mix, and we will probably get the rock or marlon wayans in there to

why not do something interesting with MIB and ghostbusters by taking a few more pages/ideas out of the IDW comics it would be more interesting and less desperate looking then the attempts their going for.

The same goes for TMNT instead of always making the same movie or always trying to appease the 80s cartoon fans and ignoring all the other fans.

I am surprised Sony has not discovered their problem yet. Focus on making ONE good movie and when that is sucessful THEN make a sequel or spin off and make that GOOD. Rise wash and repeat.

They, like many other studios, are saying 'we have a popular property which means we are instantly going to make gold and earn millions of dolars at the box office' thus they plan for a full franchise and the money they are going to make but do not bother put the attention to detail in in any ONE movie.

Prove my theory, DC, because Sony sure isn't.
