Ghost Rider: SOV Directors Say The Movie Will Really Stretch Its PG13 Rating

Some fans were disappointed when it was announced that the quasi Ghost Rider sequel would not have an R rating. Well while speaking to MTV Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor promise that we will still be getting plenty of violent carnage despite the more child friendly PG13..

As we now know, Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance will, like the vast majority of CBMs, carry a PG13 rating. Many fans hoped that this time around they would get to see the character really cut loose with an R rating, especially when the duo behind the insane Crank movies were announced as directors. But according to them the rating won't affect the onscreen violence as apparently the MPAA are much happier with people being burned to death than you might think..

"We figured out all the tricks. You can kill a lot of people by burning them up and turning them into ash. That's what you can do," Neveldine explained. Taylor added, "Fire is your friend for the MPAA."

"We knew going in that it was going to be PG-13, we just pushed the envelope as far as we could. We thought we'd get more pushback from the MPAA; we didn't. There's f-bombs in the movie, there's swear words. We have a giant body count."

"Bullets can be flying, tons and tons of rounds of bullets. It's just if you can eliminate some of the blood, you can go a lot further with it."

Should've been R, maybe there'll be an unrated Director's Cut.

The fact that this movie and Transformers: Dark of the Moon are just incontrovertial proof that the MPAA and their ratings are a joke. Theyre less interested in protecting young kids from violent content and more interested in censorship. Both this and DOTM should have been R. DOTM just got slapped with a PG-13 so the studio could make bank off merchendise.

That said, Im interested to see how far SOV goes with the PG-13...

Are you kidding me? This ruined almost my whole interest in this movie... damn! Now can anyone explain me how this could still be getting "plenty of violent carnage" in PG-13?

@Nomis- True, it's no guarantee. And 'yes', source material is gospel for any CBM.
However 'R' give's licence to the film maker to let his creativity flow unrestricted. The subject matter,in this case, should be afforded that.

@Nomis

Punisher failed not because of been a R-Rated movie it failed cause it was badly directed. look at Blade that was a R-Rated movie and it was a success.

Anyone here notice that they are really pushing this movie hard? They are working overtime to convince us to watch it. Always a red flag when they have to sell it so hard. If it's good, it will stand on its own merit.

@mugwap: This one has to shake off the bad plublicity of the first film, though. Besides, advertising doesn't necessarily desperation.
