Channing Tatum On The Idea Of A G.I. JOE Reboot

The actor behind Duke in the G.I. Joe films briefly talks about the idea of a full-on reboot of the franchise, saying that the second film would've been 'cleaner' if they went in that direction.

A follow-up to the 2009 release of G.I. JOE: RISE OF THE COBRA, which grossed over $300M worldwide, Paramount Pictures, MGM and Skydance Productions, in association with HASBRO and di Bonaventura Pictures, commences production on G.I. JOE: RETALIATION. In this sequel, the G.I. Joes are not only fighting their mortal enemy Cobra; they are forced to contend with threats from within the government that jeopardize their very existence.

In the following interview clip with Hit Fix while promoting his new film Haywire, Channing Tatum briefly comments on the idea of a full-on reboot of the G.I. Joe film franchise (Retaliation, in which Tatum reprises his role of 'Duke', has been seen as a semi-reboot of sorts). He says that he would've preferred a complete reboot, saying that the film would've been 'cleaner' but the studio didn't want to go in that direction.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation is set to hit theaters June 29th, later this year.

[frick]ing reboots man. I dont understand why they dont just try to make a good movie the first time around that way they dont have to go back and start from the beginning 5 years later. Im sick of reboots/remakes. I didnt even see the first G.I. Joe and I wont see the next one.
AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

I would prefer getting hit in the balls with a tack hammer every day for the next 2 years, if this guy agreed never to act ever again.

Didn't he also play Tom Hanks' raft went he left the island in 'Castaway'?

Yeah, a 'clean' reboot without this guy as 'Duke', and the records of Marlon Wayans as 'Ripcord', etc...good idea!

Try this.

@CaptainAmerica...No i heard he lost the part of raft and Wilson by a really narrow margin. He made up for it when he won the role of one Tom Cruise's skinny jeans in Ghost Protocol.

@croniccris -

In fairness, I checked how many thumbs up the Idris Elba had and I had one more thumbs up with my editorial but it still isn't on the main page.

I just assume the editors are having a busy day of it.

@croniccris Editors/trusted users are still able to move articles on main no matter how many thumbs up they get.

@PaulRom-

Without sounding rude, you've just made a point that makes a mockery of the new system then. Because if you have the power to move stuff on to main at will (being your own) and have no thumbs up (as well as a couple of the top 4 articles on main) yet I have two thumbs up on my editorial I posted 4 hours ago then it defeats the object of, what I deem to be, a great and fair new system.

I'm not having a go at you or anybody at the top at all. Just pointing something out.

@ CraptainAmerica - I feel your pain. My editorial has 3 thumbs up so far today and this has none. But as much as I'd like to see it on the front page I have to respect that there is a system at work, it may not be a perfect system but perfection is hard to come by.

I think an article needs at least seven thumbs up for it to be automatically moved to main.

I honestly didn't know who the hell Channing Tatum was until a couple days ago. All I've heard is that he's a terrible actor.

They should just rename it Gay Ninja Soldier so that there is no mistaking it from the real G. I. Joe and have Brent Rattner direct so people might at least get a laugh or two out of it. If they want to do the real G.I. Joe they should start here:

@ DCnerd46 - You heard he was "terrible"?! You need to point out who told you this, he needs to suffer! He's given Channing FAR too much credit! Seriously though, I'm so sorry you had to find out who he was. Your life would have been so much better never knowing.

@ AutobotCommander84 - I'm sooooo sorry my picture offended you! If your going to report me at least do it for a legitimate reason! You've clearly come on this article afraid of giving your own opinion and reporting others for having theirs! Good call! IDIOT! What was so offensive? The fact I said I'd rather look at SJP (who's face looks like a foot) than watch another GI Joe movie? Check the rules of the hall of shame BEFORE reporting people next time.

Just learned that TI and Tatum would have been in the same film together if TI didn't violate his probation and got himself locked up. It would have been too unbearable and I would have probably eaten a bullet over it.

Yours made it on to main without the 7 then...

haha tatum is saying that because he KNOWS that the first one was horrible and he made a horrible duke. only good thing about the first one, was snake eyes and storm shadow. they should have rebooted it. the second one does look better but thats not saying a whole lot.
