Neal McDonough Has "Talked About" A Live Action Green Arrow Movie

This is sketchy, but while speaking about voicing the character in DC's animated short, McDonough says that "we" talked about a live action version. Click for the details..

Was Neal McDonough close to portraying Green Arrow on the big screen? Could he still? Well based on this it's unclear but the Captain America: TFA actor (who previously voiced the character in DC Showcase: Green Arrow) certainly suggests that it may have been a possibility, but another couple of "Green" characters hitting the big screen may have brought things to a halt. Here is an excerpt from IAR's interview.

Finally, the Green Arrow is my favorite superhero of all time and I thought you were perfectly cast to voice him in the DC Showcase Animated short film that you worked on. I also think you would be a perfect choice to play him in a live action film, has there ever been any serious discussion about that? Is that something you would be interested in doing?

McDonough: Yeah that (animated short) was awesome wasn’t it? Yeah we talked about a live action version but unfortunately the other two green movies (Green Hornet, and Green Lantern) may have put a stop to it, who knows? We’re not sure. But Green Arrow is a character that is just so funny, and has such a dry sense of humor but is still a bad ass at the same time. I think of all the green superheroes, and now offense but even Hulk included, I think there is something about Green Arrow being such a smart ass and yet such a big tough guy. He only uses arrows but the way he uses those arrows is pretty amazing. I think it would be an awesome film to do and ultimately hopefully we’ll get around to doing it.

Now whether he means that he talked about it in some kind of official capacity or just discussed the idea is unclear. What do you think guys? Would McDonough make a good Olly Queen? There has been talk of a live action outing for Green Arrow for a while now but nothing has ever got close to pre production as far as I know. In fact the closest was probably Supermax, a very interesting sounding concept that would have seen GA go up against various super villains in a special maximum security prison. You can read more highlights from the interview in which the actor talks about playing Dum Dum Duggan and possibly appearing in Captain America 2 in Fresh's article HERE Click the link below to read the whole thing over at I Am Rogue.

I'd prefer Barry Pepper for a seasoned GA in live action.

Supermax would be one of the best CBMs EVER if they got the right director and cast. Matthew Vaughn would be awesome.

If they called it Supermax and he was in a prison jumpsuit in the movie but his costume at the beginning then that would help the problems. I look at him and think he could be Green Arrow more than other actors.

@RunDTC McGregor's my pick too. He'd be an awesome Olly IMO.

Out of all those suggestions Barry Pepper is deffo my favorite. McGegor generally annoys the hell out of me as an actor, he's not bad, just annoying. McDonough sucked in Cap imo. Hunnam? Meh

Im afraid it would be too much like Nolan's Bat-verse, except with bows and arrows. But Id love to see it happen

I like Pepper as an actor, loved him in Saving Private Ryan and We Were Soldiers, he just seems too...small for Green Arrow. anybody else think so?

Hunam is too short for me ( like Bale's too short to be batman), but everything else would look right.

Charlie Hunnam isn't too short. He is 6'1, Green Arrow is only 6'2.. But hey, you're entitled to your opinion..

Barry Pepper all the way. A Green Arrow movie would be awesome, but I doubt people will be that interested after seeing Hawkeye in The Avengers.

I like Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund for the role as well if it is a younger take on the character and his origins. I like Barry Pepper for the older version.

@Intruder - I do hear what you mean about Pepper not being in very many leads. The few that I can think of off the top of my head were not the best films (Battlefield Earth and Knockaround Guys).

Dc is Finally listening to the fans.. We want other Hero's. Not Just batman and superman movies.I Hope they make A Flash movie

I don't watch Sons Of Anarchy so have no idea what Hunnam is like in that. The only other thing I know of him even being in is that load of shit Green Street in which he delivered the worst English accent in the history of cinema. But I do hear good things about SOA so I will check it out.

What about Ryan Gosling? If you watch Crazy Stupid Love (it's actually good believe it or not) he can definitely pull off the role

Trapininsteel, Pepper has not excelled as a leading man..yet. But he has been excellent in supporting roles in True Grit, 25th hour and 3 Burials among others.

@RorMachine - True, perhaps he just hasn't had that right one and GA would do it for him, some of my favorites of his great supporting roles are the sniper in Saving Private Ryan and the Journalist in We Were Soldiers. I need to see Tru Grit asap.

I always forget about Gosling, and when I do I think of him as Flash but I could see him fitting into this category as well with Hunnam and Hedlund.
