Finally, we have pictures in motion to enjoy. I have waited years for this occasion and I am extremely psyched and happy about this.
Now, as we all might have noticed, there are some complaints and praises. There will always be critics and that's a good thing but sometimes the critics goes "green" prematurely.
So in this article I would like to invite you to walkthrough the teaser while I ever so slighty comment the scenes, the ones I find most important.
The Entertainment Tonight teaser starts with Hal standing in his sweatpants and tank showing Tom, who sitting comfortably in a sofa, the power of will, the power of the ring. Now the change is phenomenal! You see the power battery on the table. The battery is what I pictured: alien egg like(why the hell would a galactic race of superior beings make a earth like train lantern battery!?) And I love how his chest and ring glows more intense when he changes:
Just look at that suit! Just LOOK AT IT! It perfect! Its exactly how a modern version of Green Lantern should look like! The glows would only look too comic like, too unserious. The suit looks natural, cold, organic and mat. Its just perfect!
Then the screen cuts to what is arguably Hal flying past the moon towards the sun, or it just might be just some random star. And you see a the green bleeds of him like air in the emptiness that is space.
Then we see this:
I cant understand that some doesnt like that ring. It's just whats needed. And I love the glow, cold green on the out and hot white/light in the middle.
It gets followed by Hal flying in space or just taking a flight on earth at night. You see the organic feel to it, the muscle like texture. Its like an armour, shielding him from the whatever he needs it to. The chest insignia truly embodies the concept of "beacon of light"!
Then it scene cuts over to what's perhaps the third greatest sequence in this teaser: Sinestro decending in a peaceful, martial art kinda way in front of a monumental Green Lantern logo statue. It was hard to see at first but it starts at 10 seconds. I loved that eastern wibe I got from it. It felt (I hate to use this word) spiritual, truly kung fu-esque in outer space:
The next cutscene is back to Hal and Tom, but then we see Hal in bed, and if you look closely at 12 seconds you will see a woman in his bed! It doesnt look like Carol/Lively but it looks like a brunette. This is a good sign! Its the right version of Hal Jordan - a good old womanizer! And he is in a hurry!
Hal then appears to be in his classic bomberjacket getting transported to Oa since he looks speechless and has a slight Keanu Reeves expression on his face!
Hal in full Green Lantern costume is then shown rescuing a little boy from a threat incoming from the heavens:
Now, what happens just after is what I believe is the Abin Sur montage where he is on his way to the milky way and eventually crashing at earth. Why I believe this is because it doesnt have the green residue like you would when a Green Lantern is on the move. Its just a yellow flares, and it seems to have a few jets to make it move so it's most definitely Abin Sur moving towards his tragic fate.
Hal uses his ring to punch some bad guys in a dark alley at night:
Notice how the punch and its residue looks almost liquid like - GREAT!
Then comes whats the strangest shot sequence in the whole teaser: Hal is fly-jumping Hammond in a kinda "handicappet" way. I think this is because Hammond has used his head, literary, to put Hal in an akward position. You get a good look at the suit. It just seem as radiant there for some reason:
Now comes a good one. A most pleasant suprise and an honor on so many level. Let me introduce the gentle but slightly rough and kind giant Kilowog:
They are at Oa it would seem, and Kilowog gets a good whiff of Hal's scent. Boot camp is finally in session and Hal needs to show that humans has the potential to become great Green Lanterns.
Welcome to Oa. It looks familiar but strange. I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!
And finally we get a close up at Hal's face saying "We go look for trouble!"
Now comes the part where I comment the critics. The thing thats more controversial is the CGI part. Now, I somewhat understand what they mean but I am pretty sure that WB/DC is not going to allow the special effects guys in the post production use 'paint' and proclaim themselves "done". Warner Bros are going all out on this one! They are setting up to a movie series that will take over the gap left after "Four Eyes and Scary Motherf***er!"
The film just got into post production and its a good while until it premiers! Of course the CGI isnt done! It will look amazing when it does! And it looks pretty good from where I am standing(sitting)!
The iconic domino mask looks more like a square but maybe they will trim it. Its too soon to be sure but I would guess its gonna be like that but the graphics will improve immensely so I wouldnt worry to much about it!
Green lantern got people who has done the visual effects and special effects from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Trek, Matrix, Independence Day, Narnia, Terminator Salvation, Twister and even The X-Files! I am convinced they will make the CGI look amazing like in Avatar, and maybe even better!
I am so sure that this isnt the final piece, and the critics should be more on the forgiving side than not now! Months will have gone by before we will see the finished product and it wont be like this!
And we did just watched the Entertainment Tonight teaser. Its a teaser on E.T, its gonna contain some clips that not makes much sense and we got the feeling its a comedic film but its not. It's supposed to be more like Iron Man meets Batman Begins than The Dark Knight. We who know Green Lantern, especially Hal Jordan knows he got some jokes and has a way thats comedic but he also has a more serious tone, which I believe this film will deliver plenty of.
I've heard a rumour from a friend who got it from a friend, who got it from his brother, who got it from a friend, who got it from a friend friend's goldfish who overheard a coke bottle talking to santa claus that the Harry Potter trailer will be more gritty and serious.
We cannot possibly make a clear judgement on this film before it gets out. It was a teaser at E.T! And that program is a bit peculiar to my knowledge. That teaser was not meant to attract the hardcore comicbook fan, at least as far I know of.
In the end I would just like to say that critics are to harsh about this teaser. Its not what everyone excepted but it has made my coming exams less painful! Tuesday will show other clips that will probably be great(er)!
The CGI will improve ten times a million, it won't be all comedy, it will probably be a mix with mostly a serious tone.
Now those pics I've shown have been shown before by Jr. Editor - Rochi Morand, so thanks to him. And if you havent seen the video before here it is also. If you find something that's really strange in the teaser please comment on the subject but please, be on the more forgiving side since the movie isnt halfway done!
BMP!
