LANTERNS TV Show Reportedly Finds Its Showrunner; DC Studios Said To Be Developing THE QUESTION Series

After years of delays, it sounds like the Green Lantern TV series is finally taking shape at DC Studios. Meanwhile, we also have a small Superman: Legacy update and rumoured plans for DC's The Question...

While Superman: Legacy is still set to be released in 2025, it's likely the entire DCU slate will now head our way later than expected.

Work on all those upcoming projects was halted as a result of the WGA strikes (James Gunn was able to fulfil his duties as a director on the Superman reboot, but neither he nor anyone else could write anything) and, as things stand, actors are still unable to return to work.

The end does appear to be in sight for the SAG-AFTRA strike in the days ahead, meaning we should start getting casting news again before the year ends. In the meantime, the r/DCEULeaks Reddit page has shared new DCU intel which they claim is from a "verified" source.

We'll start with Lanterns; according to the page's moderators, Ozark showrunner Chris Mundy (who was also a writer and producer for Criminal Minds) has been tapped as the Green Lantern TV show's showrunner.

Some slight changes have also been made as the plan now is for Hal Jordan to be older than John Stewart, with the latter likely in his 20s. Previously, the idea was that they'd be the same age.

Green Lantern John Stewart In The New DCU

Recently, we've heard that Channing Tatum could be in the running to play Hal. The first Green Lantern we meet, however, will be Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner in Superman: Legacy.

Here's where things get exciting, though. It's said that DC Studios is currently in the process of developing a TV series revolving around The Question.

In the comics, The Question is Vic Sage, the vigilante protector of Hub City. He is a great martial artist and detective, and an investigative reporter in his civilian identity. The mask he wears to disguise his face is made of an experimental material called pseudoderm. Later, when Sage was dying of lung cancer, he trained Renee Montoya as his successor and she eventually replaced him.

We don't currently know which version of the character we'll see in the DCU.

Going back to Superman: Legacy, the search for Lex Luthor will supposedly resume post-strike (no duh) with Gunn searching for an actor in their 30s who looks like he'll be able to go toe-to-toe with the Man of Tomorrow.

Despite some confusion surrounding these reboot plans, it's starting to feel like an exciting time to be a DC Comics fan, something we haven't been able to say for a while now.

With Lanterns being some kind of mystery story, I think getting the Ozark showrunner is smart. That show didn't have a lot of mystery, but it was a well-crafter show a mystery could benefit from.

Anyway, I forgot Gardner will also be around. Wonder how well established the Green Lantern Corps is gonna be, and if we'll see Kyle and Jessica as well soon.

The showrunner seems good for Lanterns but hell yes to the Question show…

I have been wanting that for so long!!.

Every iteration of a Hal Jordan/John Stewart project going back to the rumored movie from nearly ten years ago had an older Hal and a younger John.

I would love to see a Question a la Denny O’Neil’s 80s run with the character.

@RolandD - hey since you’re a fan of the O’Neill/Cowan run, you should know the answer to this - yes The Question did “fight” The Riddler in a great story during O’Neill’s run. The Question #26.

Im starting to think the question is going to appear in the lanterns show. It is mystery based, and mystery sparks conspiracy. And who loves conspiracy? That is the question!

I've been surprised for ages that The Question hasn't had any appearances. He's interesting and the costume is easy. How is it he never appeared in the Arrowverse.

Anyway I'm glad he might be getting to show up.

@TheManWithoutFear - Arrow sticked rigorously to it's grounded sensitives even when they reached S4 and gave Oliver a more accurate green suit and brought in Constantine and magic and was teaming up with other heroes like Flash and the Hawk people, so yeah it's odd they didn't use that chance to introduce the Question considering they're supposed to be allies.

@JobinJ - The Question is a Charlton Comics character that Moore wanted to use in Watchmen (along with Captain Atom and Blue Beetle) but was denied access to. So he created incredibly thinly-veiled copies in Rorshach, Dr. Manhattan, and Nite Owl.

The Question was easily my favorite Justice League Unlimited character. His arc in that series was amazing writing for a kid's show.

Take my money now Max!! I think this whole process will be worth it. I know some folks if not most have been on opposite ends of the past 10 years with DC. But Gunn & Safran will give us what really all wanted and more. I can’t wait for more Lobo news and hopefully Deadman!

@AmazingFILMporg - Superman And Batman are both getting movies and The Lanterns are getting a show, so that's "3 big dogs" getting love.

Gunn has only announced some of God's And Monsters Chapter 1,so expect Wonder Woman to be added.

The Question WAS a great character.

Comic Books however were always way ahead on the inclusion thing.

When John Stewart was created, they did a great job with his character. The Question change however was terrible.

I just hope they don't spend all their creative juice on mega DEI evil whitey oppressed all our ancestors mush like Falcon/Winter Soldier did.

This could be great. Get it right Mr. Gunn.

Since they want a young John I'd cast Peyton Alex Smith or Keith Powers. As for ? I'd like any of these guys for the role Karl Urban,Josh Hartnett, or Ben Barnes

I say that the former Ozark showrunner should be the one running The Question tv series in that case, not the GLs one.

Green Lanterns has this concern that it'll feel grounded since the characters won't be in outer space protecting their assigned sector, but who knows. With that said, don't really think Channing Tatum is the best inspired choice for Hal Jordan and I can see many die hard comic book fans (aka gatekeepers) throwing a fit that he'll be the veteran one compared to John Stewart instead of both being equals.

They should look for new faces for these roles, just like how Greg Berlanti was doing it for his own GL shown. [frick] you Zaslav.
