My honest review of Green Lantern. Does it deserve the hate? WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!

Review Opinion

This is my first movie review so here goes.

I just got back from seeing Green Lantern, and I must say that while it was for sure not the BEST CBM i've seen, I did enjoy it over all but there were some parts that I think they should have done without.
The move started ok but Hal's origin was too drawn out for me. I wish they could have cut the parts on earth from after his flight simulation, to where he found Abin out of the film. They did very little for the overall story. Hal's flashback of his fathers death, the constant back and forth with him and Carrol, ok we get it he watched his dad die and is in love with Carrol. His nephew worrying about him on his own birthday, his brother cutting into him, these were not needed because they were only seen in this scene and had nothing to do with the plot. I feel the story would have gone smoother had they showed his flight simulation, cut to Abin, Hal gets his ass chewed and on his way home the ring chooses him.

A second complaint I had was that there was not much time shown with him on Oa training. Tomar explained a little, and I do mean little, of who the Guardians are and the history of the Corps. to Hal getting his ass kicked by Kilowog for a few minutes and then by Sinestro. More of his first time on Oa should have been shown.

On to the plus sides:
Mark Strong was PERFECT as Sinestro in the few scenes he was in. HE makes me still hope theres a sequil just to see more of him as Sinestro ESPECIALLY after watching the Hidden scene. The hidden scene itself made me very happy, seeing Sinestro slip on the yellow ring and seeing him in the FULL SINESTRO CORPS. OUTFIT was epic!

Overall had they stuck with the main plot by showcasing more that a few mins of certin scenes and cut out the excess junk that was un needed the movie would have been better. Overall I'd give it a good 4.5 out of 10. Obviously not NEAR the level of other DC Comics CBM's such as Donner's Superman and Nolan's Batman series, but it is BY FAR better than the movies DC has produces since TDK such as Jonah Hex. But in the end, it comes down to a matter of personal prefrence.

Hope I didn't do too bad on my first review.

I have a different opinion. I watched the movie in 2D and I think that Green Lantern isn't a bad movie. In fact, I think it's a fun CBM with a simple story like the one in Thor, except I enjoyed Green Lantern more than Thor and I say that even though I'm more a fan of the Thor character than of Green Lantern.

People in the internet talk about this movie like it were the 2011's Batman and Robin. I've even heard that this is the worst superhero movie of all time. Baahhh! What a piece of bull!! To the people who hesitate to go see this movie because of the consensus of the critics in Internet, I would just say that: DON'T LISTEN TO THEM! I know now more than ever that ''movie critics'' in Internet can't enjoy a superhero movie without some ''art'' in it even if the movie is fun and entertaining which Green Lantern clearly is IMO. With Green Lantern, It's just a matter of preference and I really think that GL deserves at least the same success than Thor in the BO since to me, GL is a bit better than Thor; none are epic but good CBMs just above IM2.

Folks do not be fooled by any positive reviews of this movie by DC fanboys.

They just need people to see it to boost its meagre boxoffice so they have a better chance of getting a sequel.

It's cinematic diarrhoea. Do not waste your hard earned money. Let it die down the toilet like it deserves.

@Coldblood6 bandwagon hater. Dont be fooled by this guy who looks at rotten tomato, sees what critics are saying and then repeats it just because he cant form his own opinion. don't get me wrong, I've seen a lot of bad comic book movies like spiderman 3 but this is no where near that bad. people are overreacting.

@ Coldblood6

I'm not a DC fanboy, neither am I a Marvel fanboy although I have to say that my favorite superhero in comic books is the Hercules character of Marvel as shown in my avatar. I'm just a person who likes CBMs. It seems to me that you're a Marvel fanboy and if the superhero genre dies someday, It will be because of childish tools like you who pick a side (DC or Marvel) and do nothing but bitch on the other.

That being said, we all wish that every CBM is masterpiece. Unfortunately, it's still not the case this year but we've had so far three really enjoyable CBMs from Marvel and DC but none are masterpiece like TDK. There's still CA:TFA left and I hope that it is near TDK level. We should support our CBMs instead of trashtalking and badmouthing them so hopefully one day, we can get only great superhero movies.

If anyone has ever read Green Lantern Secret Origins the story and pacing were almost identical to that comic. They were very true to it for the most part with a few tweaks here but since I liked the comic I liked the film. I suggest people bone up on there Green Lantern before they bash it!

Im not bashing it, as I said in my article I liked it, I just thought they had a bit more in it than was needed.
Overall I liked it.
