As more details on the upcoming HBO Max Green Lantern series from Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim continue to find their way online, this latest breakdown confirms that fan-favorite ring-slinger Sinestro will be making an appearance, while also giving us some idea of what to expect from this interpretation of the character.
Previous reports have indicated that Guy Gardner, Alan Scott, and Bree Jarta (an original character we learned would be introduced in the series last year), Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz will be the main players, but it sounds like Sinestro will also have a pretty significant part to play.
"[THAAL SINESTRO] (Male, 40s, any ethnicity) The greatest of all the Green Lanterns, Sinestro is akin to a warrior monk, the personification of grace under pressure. He serves as the strategic commander for the Corps and all Lanterns follow his orders without question. Although he is revered for his unmatched willpower and wisdom, a darker destiny belies his otherwise Zen demeanor. [SERIES REGULAR]"
It sounds like this series will stick to the source material by introducing Sinestro as a heroic member of the Green Lantern Corps before taking him down a darker path as the story progresses.
The 2011 movie didn't get many things right, but most fans would agree that Mark Strong's take on the character was a definite highlight. Could we see the actor reprise the role for this series? It seems highly unlikely, but you never know.
The Green Lantern HBO Max series is reportedly scheduled to commence production this summer in Los Angeles.
