James Gunn has taken to Twitter to share a few more details on the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, and it sounds like the Disney+ one-shot will welcome a couple of new faces to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Last year, Gunn stated that the special would debut "one of the greatest MCU characters of all time" (in his "incredibly subjective and admittedly often odd opinion"), and he's now revealed that "more than one great new MCU character will be introduced." At the time, there was speculation that the filmmaker might be referring to Richard Rider/Nova, but we recently learned that the space-faring hero will lead his own project, so that seems unlikely.
Gunn refrained from dropping any hints about these mysterious characters' identities, but he did confirm that the Holiday Special will shoot at the same time as his GOTG threequel (which is now in production), and will be set between the events of Vol. 2 and Vol. 3. The special is scheduled for release this December.
