GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Referenced In WWE Storylines After Batista "Quits"

Batista (Drax the Destroyer in James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy) has "quit" the WWE so he can have some time off to promote the Marvel Studios movie, and that's now being referenced in storylines, perhaps hinting at some more promotion down the line. Hit the jump for much more...

Batista's return to the WWE hasn't been a success. While he was received well when he returned, the decision to have him win the Royal Rumble didn't sit well with many fans and they quickly turned on "Bootista". With Guardians of the Galaxy promotional duties around the corner, the wrestler has taken some time off, but his role in the Marvel Studios movie has found its way into WWE storylines, as a way of explaining his absence from upcoming shows. So, first of all (to give you some context), here is Batista quitting during this past Monday's episode of Raw.

In his weekly interview with WWE.com, WWE COO (in real-life and on television) Triple H addressed Batista's decision to quit, saying "What do I think about Batista quitting? It's not the first time he quits, probably won't be the last time he quits. It's what Dave does. He quits thing. Never really sees them through. He wants to run off to Hollywood and play Drax the Destroyer in his Guardians of the Galaxy movie, good for him. I hope it works out because I know Dave well enough to know he doesn't have a plan B." Marvel recently aired an exclusive Guardians of the Galaxy sneak peek after a broadcast of Raw (it was a recut version of the second trailer), and with Batista expected to return for SummerSlam, we could see even more of the movie on WWE programming. Hugh Jackman recently appeared for X-Men: Days of Future Past, so could the entire cast of Guardians of the Galaxy assemble in the ring? That's the rumour!

As an added bonus, here's a very funny reference to The Walking Dead courtesy of fan favourite WWE superstar, Bad New Barrett from a recent episode of Main Event from the WWE Network.

So Vin Deseal, Bradley Cooper, Dave Batista, Chris Pratt, and possibly Zoe Saldana might appear in the WWE ring to tag-team some long-haired wrestler?

I'm down!

I think Batista thought he'd return to WWE and get a heroes welcome like others. Instead he was hated immediately.
And as of now he is a tarnished product.

Not a good idea to enter into WWE which is very poorly managed and a company that consistently puts out bad product.
And both of those points are now voiced by shareholders and stock brokers who have warned against investing in the WWE.

Batista was not a good investment for the WWE in 2014. His lure in his heyday was that he was "The Animal" and he was a huge, ripped bulk. His doesn't have the mic skills or wrestling ability of other wrestlers who wrestled past their prime like Flair or the Undertaker.
So when he returned smaller and older his only attraction was gone.

Now both he and the WWE look bad after his return failed miserably.

@Batmantis

So thinking wrestling is fake is exclusive to Marvel Fanboys. What does marvel fanboys have to do with thinking wrestling is fake? I thought MOST believed that wrestling is fake (the proper term is scripted). Are we just blaming Marvel Fanboys for everything now? Isn't that a bit silly?

LOL @ Bootista!!

They will love him when he comes back after GOTG. He should come back with RR and Groot for a tag team match.

@Objectivelybiased It's a thread based on a Marvel movie and Triple H on RAW said Guardians would fail. That's all, don't get your panties in a bunch.

He arrived at a time the fanbase was revolting over Cena vs Orton, scheduled to win a Rumble that didn't feature the guy the fans were revolting in favor of, and really would only accept. He ended up representing same old shit instead of new that their fans suddenly wanted. His facial expressions and actions though are still hilariously great. In short, his timing could NOT have been worse.
