Michael Rooker's 'Yondu' Finally Gets Spotlight In New GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Images
As Michael Rooker spills new details about Yondu and his dynamic with Star-Lord, two new stills from Guardians of the Galaxy have been released featuring the character. Check it out after the jump
"He's feeling lost, vulnerable, defeated, emotionally drained and hurt, and here is Yondu in this light coming down and brings him up into the spacecraft and takes him away," Michael Rooker told USA Today about how his blue-hued character first encounters Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). "It might have been pretty horrific, but also a bit cool." As Quill's surrogate father figure, Yondu raises him alongside his Ravengers, "an outer-space biker gang of sorts usually up to no good," reports USA Today. Yondu has "some interesting issues — not a good guy, not a bad guy. There's hope and there's a heart inside Yondu," Rooker says. "It's not so black and white — I should say blue and white. And I enjoy roles that are like that, even if they're not in some galaxy somewhere other than ours." Though Rooker's Yondu doesn't have the tall trademark red fin, he does have a mohawk and will be equipped with the character's whistle-controlled arrow from the comics. Michael Rooker also reveals he grew his nails out for the part, which James Gunn wrote for him. "They're not so long and pointy that they're like demon things, and yet they're not so manicured like a regular human guy." There are some heavy spoilers in the source link that accompanied the following Guardians of the Galaxy stills, so head over to USA Today with caution.
