RUMOR: MTV think's Vin Diesel Is Playing Thanos

In a not-so-revealing news cap, MTV News thinks that Mr. Diesel is playing Thanos. Is it all a rouse, or is Diesel just playing GROOT?

MTV News thinks that Vin is secretly playing Thanos, in a statement:

And then there's the Thanos question. The death-obsessed, purple elephant in the room. There hasn't been a word on who will play the villain teased at the end of "The Avengers," despite Gunn and Marvel Studios co-president Kevin Feige confirming that he'll be present in "Guardians of the Galaxy." Thanos could in theory be a CGI character, but Gunn's usage of practical makeup effects and his cameo in "The Avengers" has us thinking otherwise. Before he posted the image of Groot, Diesel hinted that he could play Vision. So if this all turns out to be a ruse and he is actually playing Thanos, it wouldn't be the first trick he's played on Marvel fans.

He's not.

They interviewed the black guy who did.

His name is Damion Poitier.

He's Thanos.

Damoin Poitier was only a stand in for the after the credit scene. Feige said he felt he was free to recast.

could they do thanos justice with practical make up effects? they did a good job with the hellboy make up but thanos is huge.

i say motion capture suit is the best way.

I could see this, but I'm unsure of this at best.

A few reasons why.

I do believe Vin is playing another character besides Groot. But it seemed that he'd be playing that other character later because he didn't have enough time to do a big role.

Fans heard that he was playing someone and wanted to know who it was. Marvel reilized that the fans wanted something closer that he could appear in and that is why they let him play Groot because of the small role (he only has to say one phrase).

Thus if he plays Thanos why have him play Groot? If he didn't have enough time to do a big character how would he have enough time to play Thanos? Perhaps Thanos doesn't get much screen time but I honestly doubt this.

Do I have a problem with him playing Thanos? Nope.

But I doubt he is.

Not to mention that video of Vin practicing wearing stilts on set to achieve Groot's height.

Damion Poitier is Thanos, Vin is Groot, MTV is as dumb as nails, El Maybe is almost always wrong, water is still wet and we're not getting any smarter.

They recast Hank McCoy from X2 to X3

I'm starting to get the feeling that Aaron Johnson is actually Ant-Man and Elizabeth Olsen is going to play Wasp... I can be completely wrong or I can be fortunately right. I mean, why has Edgar Wright already started filming more Ant-Man footage WITHOUT telling us who's wearing the suit in that BTS photo he posted on Twitter a while back? But this is just my crazy speculation

they recast Howard Stark twice.

@Redrest94

Johnson is way too young to be playing Hank Pym.

I posted this yesterday in the previous article of Vin's "one liner"

THERE YOU HAVE IT, THE REASON VIN CANNOT BE THANOS: It's already been said I believe a few months ago that THANOS would have a VERY minor part in the GOTG, that being said; If Vin has ONE line in the movie, assuming it is,"I AM GROOT!" That leaves no lines for THANOS, so can we put that theory to rest? I think so. Vin's "2016 film with Marvel" in my opinion is someone completely separate to anything currently in production. I anticipate his 2016 role at Marvel to start a NEW franchise, what that is is still up for speculation.

@Conan wut the hell does that have to do with anything? Lol I highly doubt Diesel would be given 2 roles in one movie. Thanos is confirmed for GoTG and I wouldn't want him in both of those roles. Either one is fine but not both. He is Groot. That's that. He might be playing someone else in a future Marvel role however.

I think he's Groot. and I think he's Black Bolt in the Inhumans movie in 2016. He has the build/face structure for it.
GinjaNinja
GinjaNinja - 10/16/2013, 7:34 PM
He better not play blackbolt. They his awesome voice would only be used like 3 times in 2 characters. I AM GROOT! and then you wouldn't even have him talk in inhumans.

bbman182 - 10/16/2013, 7:53 PM
I agree... I think he is one of the few guys in Hollywood with the voice, build, and face structure to play Thanos; plus, he is a huge name. The "down-the-road" part may be Thanos in Avengers 3.

@Soto they already confirmed Thanos would have multiple appearances and lines in GOTG

Marvel should just keep Damion Poitier as Thanos.

They aren't getting the no-name-nobody-gives-a-crap stand-in actor to play Thanos. Vin Diesel and Feige have both said that they were working on getting Vin to play another role, larger than Groot (and i'm not talking physically) a few years down the road - they mentioned a project that they have hardly started discussing yet. So it's perfectly likely that if he isn't playing Thanos for the 2 scenes where he's kind of referenced in GOTG, he'll end up playing him in Avengers 3.

Not guaranteed, but i'd say there's a solid chance.

SwagInScience - 10/17/2013, 7:26 AM
It's easy. Vin will be both Groot and The Vision. In Lord of The Rings John Rhys-Davies played Gimli and voiced treebeard. Most people don't even know.

I definitely think there's more to this I only have a 1 line motion capture performance that Vin Diesel keeps telling anyone who will listen. Marvel really would go through all this work and trouble to lock up Diesel for one line of dialogue. I'm with MTV I think he will be playing Thanos, and I'm cool with awesome choice if true.
