Melissa McCarthy Responds To GHOSTBUSTERS Negativity

In the wake of some terrible reception to its trailers, one of the stars of Ghostbusters has finally weighed in on the slew of negative comments haunting the film. Read on for more!

To say the response to the Ghostbusters reboot has not been kind would be a gross understatement; the film has received a steady volley of criticism ever since the first trailer dropped, and hasn't had an easy ride as far as marketing goes. Currently, the first trailer stands as the most disliked trailer on YouTube, and much of the cast has received some unwarranted abuse online. In a new interview with The Guardian, star Melissa McCarthy shared her thoughts on the negativity surrounding the film. "All those comments, 'You're ruining my childhood!'" she said. "I mean, really, four women doing any movie on Earth will destroy your childhood? I have a visual of those people not having a Ben [Falcone, McCarthy’s husband], not having friends, so they’re just sitting there and spewing hate into this fake world of the internet. I just hope they find a friend."

Director Paul Feig defended McCarthy and the rest of his cast in a past interview, saying that, "I’m so proud of my cast. I think the cast is so good, and they can stand in the footsteps of who came before, because they’re such funny people but they’re different. That’s all you really want out of a comedy at the end of the day, is something different and new, and to just see great people do it."

Do you plan on seeing the film? Ghostbusters is set for release on July 15, 2016.

I loved the original 2 and will prob see this one day.
I think that the backlash to this has been misconstrued as it doesn't look fantastic and instead they have taken this as people being against the female cast.

Diversity in movies shouldn't feel forced but rather natural just like in real life.

Also they have Leslie Jones playing a stereotype as well

@SimplyAz -

1000000% this. If the movie at least looked good it may have shut up the people who were determined to hate it from the start. But it just looks objectively bad.

It's not about being women! Stop using the if you hate you be sexist excuse. People are hating as you are piggy backing on a beloved brand, and rather than anything new or even acknowledging the heritage it looks awful, unoriginal and it's merely banking on it's name.

Honesty, a female Ghostbusters team I'm fine with, couldn't care less it's the fact the filmmakers put no effort to add to the brand and franchise.

"Four women doing any movie on Earth will destroy your childhood?”

No, Melissa, four women destroying Ghostbusters, not just any movie.

"They can stand in the footsteps of who came before".

None of the cast in this worthless remake can stand in Aykroyd or Murray's footsteps, none.

And I'm tired of seeing these clowns thinking what they do is actually comedy. McCarthy, Rebel Wilson, I am putting all of these under the same denominator. It is disgusting what people think good comedy is nowadays.

@kylo0607 - that second part is actually offensive and a little damning, you can't compare their brand of comedy to those guys its [frick]ing just wrong

GH@STBUSTERS Fans: Everything was fine with our film system until this shit remake was made by dickless here.

Paul Faig: They caused an internet explosion with their anti-feminist bullying!

Hollywood: Is this true?

GH@STBUSTERS Fans: Yes it's true.

[pause]

GH@STBUSTERS Fans: This man has no dick.

Pretty sure the reaction wouldn't have been all that different if they had announced a Ghostbusters reboot unrelated to the original movies starring, say, the cast of Grown-Ups...

@Kyos - I, for one, would have actually been more mad. I am not a fan of McCarthy (I don't hate her, just not a huge fan of her style), but I genuinely enjoy the other 3 SNL alum. And at least Leslie Jones and Kate McKenna are fairly new to film, so I can excuse them for taking such a big risk, and I love them both on SNL right now.

If this was the has-been cast of Grown-Ups, it would, to me, scream of entitlement and having an attitude that they think they are big enough to fill the roles in Ghostbusters or something. That would piss me off way more than a gender swap with at least 50% fresh movie actresses.

The reason I will not be seeing this movie is because Melissa McCarthy is in it.

The entire Sony campaign to try and get people to watch this film is essentially summarised by trying to convince people that anyone who dislikes the movie is somehow sexist or racist. This is to try and guilt trip people into watching the movie.

Yet the trailer and presumably the movie thrive on objectifying men and women, while playing off stereotypical and arguably racist tropes.

I would have been fine with this, maybe even exited if this was just a continuation/next generation movie that took place after the original ghost busters but with a new team that happens to be women. Remaking the original but with women is just dumb.

@FishyZombie - But see, that's exactly why movies like Jurassic World or the Force Awakens ended up being so successful. They pay tribute to the past while moving forward into the future.

Chaos200 - 5/30/2016, 5:36 PM
@FishyZombie - It was actually going to be something like this originally but Paul Feig wanted to reboot it guess the reason why?
No not because it would be better creatively
No not because he had a brilliant story and plot that needed us to forget about the original
No not because they couldn't get the original cast back.

But because he wanted the women to appear more "empowered" by creating the tech themselves.

So you get rid of 30 years of legacy and ghostbusters fandom so you can make women seem more empowered? Even though in reality they are literally copying the original team while pretending to be the originators in the movie.

Disgusting.

If it helps, I have a friend who's the most hardcore feminist I know, and even she feels like this movie is pandering and offensive in its use of stereotypes.

The reason people hate this film isn't because it has females in it, but how they're going about making this film. That is by slapping everyone in the face that likes the original Ghostbusters movies. This movie just screams exploiting the old films to make extra money on this new one, when they're nothing alike, other than just having ghosts in the films. With how many times the actors and director talks about how it is its own movie, how about letting it stand on its own feet? But no they want to trick people into thinking this is a new Ghosterbusters movie, which it isn't.

I also have no desire to see this movie because of how the actors and director have been putting down Ghostbusters fans. Calling them different names and showing them how immature they are. Yet because of them talking about these different people they are the real insecure and immature people.

Plus l also thought Fan4stic was going to be crap and look how that turned out.
