Deadline report that Warner Bros have now chosen director Ben Affleck (who was last year named as one of the the frontrunners for Man of Steel before turning it down) to direct the highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King novel, and Marvel comic book series, The Stand. There are no further details at this current time, but with movies like The Town, Gone Baby Gone and upcoming Iranian hostage drama Argo all under his belt, I think it's faiur to say that the studio have made a great choice! Will he also star in it? We'll just have to wait and see, although there is some buzz that he'd like to play Stu Redman.

After GONE BABY GONE and THE TOWN, he can direct whatever he wants. Good actor and even better director.

Yea Affleck rules, the Town was incredible.

But even though everything about the new Superman movie looks cool, it really scares me that he turned it down.

Boiler Room, Changing Lanes, The Town, The Company Men, State of Play, Smokin Aces, Hollywoodland, Dogma, Good Will Hunting.

Literally just finished the Stand today. Completely mind-blowing. I love The Town and Gone, Baby, Gone - so I have complete faith with the adaptation in the hands of Ben Affleck!

Michael Fassbender as Randall Flagg.

He has that devilish appearance needed for the role.

He wasn't listed as an actor he was in the running to direct. But he was rumored to play superman back in the day.

Ben Afleck was pretty good as Daredevil. He wasn't the problem with the movie. But what do I know, I kind of liked the movie.

as a die hard fan of the book my only worry is that he will try to cram it all into one movie. If he agrees to make a 2 or 3 film franchise my worries will be at ease

Affleck should be Larry Underwood, not Stu Redman. 'Cause Larry's kind of a douche, at least in the beginning.

He is a good actor just not right for some roles, and he is an excellent director can't see him doing the wrong thing with this Gone Baby Gone was a great adaptation.

I thought he was very good as Daredevil. The movie's direction was uneven, but that's not his fault. He was good. After Gone Baby Gone...I trust him on this.

I'm happy with this. I'm a bit worried with how they will fit the whole story in a 2/3 hour movie, but he's a good director.

Overrated actor, but DEEPLY UNDERrated director! Guy's [frick]ing brilliant!

I would probably be brilliant to if I had a stiff proposition and Jennifer Lopez had an opening...I would probably fill the position....

They should really break the The Stand into 3 films, the same way the book is broken down into 3 parts. Affleck is a good choice, unless he lets his brother play Flagg.

I'm with @@WesleyGib.....waiiitttt a [frick]in' minute!

Lol. He was a good choice for Murdoch, with the story, direction were awful. The fight scenes were choreographed so poorly even a blind guy could see what's next (get it, a blind guy) and Jennifer Garner and Colin Ferrell were [frick]ing annoying.

And I'm a Colin Ferrell fan!
