For many, Hulk's first live action film outing was rather disappointing in Hulk. The Ang Lee directed was well received by critics but hated on by fanboys. Eric Bana starred in the film as Bruce Banner/Hulk and was recently interviewed by Huffington Post. The subject of his film, Hulk, was brought up. Here's what Bana had to say about it:

I'm proud of what it tried to do. I apologize to all those people who were so angry about it...I'm fascinated by the people who hated that movie and feel compelled to watch it again, which always blows my mind. But, yeah, it is what it is and I certainly don't regret doing it.

I think I'm so lucky it didn't happen....One of the things I was most fearful of at the time is it being a huge success...If I had done three Hulks, it would have wiped out -- and it always takes a long time to do those movies -- so it would take six of my movies off the table.

So what are your thoughts about Bana's comments and the film Hulk? Would you have liked to have seen a sequel to Hulk or do you prefer The Incredible Hulk? Comment below. Peace and remember...

I think the Incredible Hulk was better. Honestly Ang Lee's hulk was so boring to me. He's a good director, he just wasn't the right one for the Hulk movie IMO.

turrible film.

Here's what I think.

If you are under 18 or what to see Hulk just smash shit, watch Avengers or The Incredible Hulk.

I saw Hulk when I was 10 and I was completely lost with the story and plot. Most of the reason I liked it as a kid was when we saw Hulk smash in the film. I rewatched it lately and I liked it. I really liked it.

Hulk is meant for an older audience that wants a comic book movie that is deeper than a summer popcorn flick like Avengers or The Incredible Hulk.

Just my opinion.

Also I like Norton, Bana, and Ruffalo equally. All 3 are great in my mind.

Ruffalo is the best Hulk there is.

Ang Lee's hulk isn't bad (If you take out the hulk poodle, hulk design) but I think it would have been better had it been released in the year 2021 when people wanted something new. The problem is, they shouldn't have given us something so unfamiliar. People were expecting a Bill Bixbyish type of film or a film closer to the comics. That was his downfall.

@TimL, we aren't talking about Bruce Banner we are talking about the movie as a whole.

the avengers is the most comic accurate portrayal of the hulk.

hulk is just terrible, hulked out dogs & the hulk body mass actually changing with each scene one minute he is about 8ft the next 15ft tall maybe even taller.

best bit lasts about 10 minutes, when the hulk takes on the u.s army.

@LEVITIKUZ

Well, I share it to a degree, Levi. I definitely prefer it to The Incredible Hulk, but that is largely because I think The Incredible Hulk is a bit of a misfire for a number of reasons.

However, while Hulk hints at depth and sets itself up as an exploration of emotional trauma and suppressed rage, and pitches a far more fascinating Banner than Norton's take, I don't think it has the actual substance to really back that up. It's mostly a problem toward the end of the movie, where the revelations aren't nearly as revelatory or cathartic to the audience as we're led to believe they are for Bruce himself. It fizzles. Then, of course, we get the obligatory CG smackdown attached at the end, which is a terrible attempt at playing to the HULK SMASH crowd.

I deeply respect the sensibilities that went into it, and there are some great scenes and really great imagery. I genuinely love Bana's performance, and I think he conveys the simmering anger and the emotional distance of that version of Banner superbly. Ultimately, though, I think I like the movie more for what it was trying to do than what it is.

In retrospect I guess it follows through on its themes and setups better than some of the current Marvel movies, though. Iron Man 2 and 3 both make lofty thematic promises that they forget about halfway through - although they didn't put all their eggs in those respective baskets like Hulk did.

The actors who have played Hulk are really a great set. I mean look at the Batmans. We all know Keaton and Bale are the best and Val and George weren't good. Eric, Mark, and Ed were all good in their own ways which is difficult because they each brought something to the table one other guy couldn't.

@LEVITIKUZ I disagree about Hulk being deeper I think TIH is just as deep and adult themed but is more fun at the same time. In fact TIH is my favorite of the Marvel films. To me Hulk is just kind of bizarre and I don't care for the plot or its holes.

@Marvel72,
Don't agree. Hulk isn't supposed to move like an ape.

I love this movie.
Could've done without him growing so tall.
Outside of that it was great

LEVITIKUZ - 8/26/2013, 2:05 PM
Ok the whole Hulk goes from 8 to 15 feet, I like that but at the same time I don't.

I like the idea of how the angry Hulk gets, he's bigger but at the same time that sounds corny as [frick].
LEVITIKUZ
LEVITIKUZ - 8/26/2013, 2:14 PM
Yea the Hulk dogs were stupid.

I didn't mind the father bit mostly because we've never seen an angle like that. Look at Pa Kent, Thomas Wayne, Uncle Ben. We never see father figures in comics really turn on their superkid so in a way I found it refreshing a bit.

marvel72 - 8/26/2013, 2:14 PM
@ highflyer

he moves like an ape in a couple of quick moments, the look/design of the hulk, the strength/power of the hulk are all more comic accurate then any hulk that has come before.

It was a different time for CBM's, I honestly believe that. This was before the times of IM and TIH, which paved the way for completely different Superhero movies...

I really don't understand why TIH is so underrated too...

Loved "HULK" I would honestly give it a 7.5 would've been an 8 if the Absorbing Man vs Hulk Finale was a bit longer and more brutal.

Bana, Norton Ruffalo in that order. I'm sure Rufalo will become a great and memorable Banner once he gets his own so film. He did a good job in Avengers, want to see more Hulk films someday.

as i recall the movie was half good.
The problem with this movie is that they couldn't find the right balance between it's comic book roots (Hulk wearing pink pants, high jumping, smashing the tank, or fighting the big poodles) and some serious tone they went for (Banner's Daddy Issues, Banner's Mom Dead).

I think the movie pretty much divided the audience.
Guess finding the right ballance is never easy task.
+ they weren't ready to see some serious comic book movie.

also the end scene with Banner talking to his dad was really cool. Very minimalistic.

Oh yeah and "The Incredible Hulk" was great Iron Man and Incredible Hulk are my major favorites out of phase 1. More seriously toned! Captain America was pretty serious as well. Can't wait to see why Winter Soldier brings!

My favorite part about this movie was the psychological explanation for the Hulk. The idea that Bruce witnessed violence in his home as a child and grew up feeling angry at his helplessness is a perfect explanation for the Hulk's powers.

best movies featuring the hulk, well for me anyway.

1st the avengers
2nd the incredible hulk
3rd hulk
4th hulk tv show of the late 70s

How could anyone forget one of the greatest cliff hangers in a Marvel film before the Phase 1 films??? This scene gave me chills as a child! I wanted to see what happened next so bad!!

Really, people who didn't know much about Hulk before seeing this movie... I really can't understand why they wouldn't have liked it. It wasn't THE MOST THRILLING movie of the year (compared to X2, Daredevil, the Matrix sequels, etc) but it was still an intelligent and thought-provoking work.

Its just the way it strings the most unimportant parts along, I could see where they were going but I didn't like how boring it got.

Well Tainted, I think that's the problem:

intelligent and thought-provoking

It's one of the reasons this film didn't get a sequel and why Transformers films do.
