Rumours have been flying about in the past week that a sequel to 2012's Judge Dredd was in the works, after Karl Urban revealed that talks with Lionsgate were in progress. Unfortunately, Collider's Steve Weintraub revealed, via AMCMovieTalk, that the sequel isn't likely. Here's what he had to say:

From what I've heard, Dredd was sold with different film companies around the world. I sent some emails around to find out what's going on with the film. Lionsgate only have the rights to a domestic release. If a sequel is going to be made all the companies that paid for it would need to be cool. It'd be pretty tough to pull of, I'm 99% sure it isn't being made

What do you think? Does a Dredd sequel have any chance of seeing daylight? Sign off your thoughts below!

Couldn't a sequel be produced by different studios?

Child's Play sequels were produced and released by a different studio than the one that made the first one.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! They should make this a tv series. It would have a smaller budget and I believe it would be more popular.

I literally just got done watching that show and steve never said it was confirmed that it isn't happening. He just said that all the other foreign markets would have to agree to make the movie, making it difficult to do it. But he NEVER said it's not gonna happen. He just thinks its unlikely

He's just trying to say that given the current issues with the rights to the movies distribution its going to make a sequel hard to make and he feels it's most likely not gonna happen. That doesn't mean it's not going to happen. So everyone can still have hope!

There needs to be a way to kickstart movies like the site smgo.tv is for tv shows but instead for movies.

@SotoJuiceMan I'm just trying to say that since this guy is not studio level or anything, we should wait for someone involved in the film such as Karl Urban or the producer or something before we all jump to conclusions saying that the movie is gonna get made or it isn't gonna get made. Because a lot of people publish someone's thought or feelings as news and it becomes this big deal. So I'm just trying to prevent people from making assumptions based on this. So until someone involved makes an official statement, everything should be taken with a grain of salt

Well that's shit

Damn, Dredd was even better than Iron Man 3, Man of Steel etc.

:(

That Almost Human TV show should be a DREDD show, maybe DREDD will come to TV on AMC or something, that would be awesome!

ROGUE TROOPER and ABC WARRIORS needs movies too!

Thats too bad. I wanted to see what the sequel to this would look like. It def had the edge needed for a dredd film.

I don't think that's the kind of thing that stops if it the plan is to move forward. People who paid for the rights would rather get bought out or take a risk-free percentage of gross than just sit on it for the sake of sitting on it, certainly.

NOW, how serious anyone is about ACTUALLY moving forward with it is the real question.

Dredd should be on Cable tv like on A&E, Showtime or HBO or something like those, and let it be as hardcore as possible. I'd rather see a tv show than another movie. They failed twice with the movies, and it's because Dredd is a hard character to translate into a 2 hour movie.

Dredd works best on TV...
