Even though Justice League ended with a post-credits scene teasing Jesse Eisenberg's return as Lex Luthor, it's unlikely the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star will get the chance to reprise the role. Despite that, he's anxious to play the iconic villain again, but admits that he's not been told what the future holds in store for the iconic Superman baddie.
Eisenberg has expressed his desire to return to role in the past, but he sounds more excited by the prospect than ever in a new interview.
"Oh yeah, are you kidding? I would love it," he told
The National when asked if Lex Luthor is someone he would play again.
"That’s the coolest role to play. I don’t even know if they know what they’re doing with the movies, but for me it was exhilarating. I would love to play that role forever. I have no knowledge about what they’re doing with it."
Asked what the appeal was of playing the character previously portrayed on screen by Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey, Eisenberg admitted that the freedom it presented was a big draw.
"The character is open to any interpretation. It’s not a prescribed, acceptable role that the audience feels they have to like or see themselves in, so that’s the kind of freeing role that actors like."
"Will they let me do it again? I have no idea," he added. "But that’s the kind of thing I love."
Justice League teased Lex Luthor's plan to form the Injustice League, but that's not something Warner Bros. seems interested in pursuing now that the DC Extended Universe is growing increasingly standalone in nature. There aren't really very many other movies the villain would be a good fit for either!
