Shanks Fitted For Hawkman Wings!

Shanks Fitted For Hawkman Wings!

We all know the JSA episode in "Smallville" is going to be a two-parter, and it's highly anticipated by "Smallville" and comic fans with the news that comic book scribe Geoff Johns is involved with the introduction of team members Hawkman, Stargirl and Doctor Fate.

Michael Shanks (Smallville's Hawkman), who plays Daniel Jackson on the television series "Stargate SG-1", has hinted that the JSA could very well appear in more than just the two episodes we've heard about.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, he said:

“The way it's set up there is a strong possibility that there could be more. I don't know where they're going with their season arc, but they certainly set the table. They've left that possibility wide open.”

Shanks confirmed that he will be playing the Carter Hall version of Hawkman from the DC comic books. He's also revealed that he's already been fitted for his “ Hawkman wings” about 5 times.

The Shankster goes on to say, “This is what I've been doing the most of, is going for fittings and you know, talking to the producers about the character and discussing the elements of the voices. But mostly it's been focused on the costume and the logistics of the costume,” Shanks related. “Again, it's a necessary thing. I really appreciate the reverence that these guys have.”

“When you're a guest character, you're used to being one of those things that are being ignored,” Shanks continued. “But they've really given a lot of thought and reverence to my input, both artistically, talking to (producer) James Marshall about the character and where he wants to see this develop… They've given a lot of prep time to work out the bugs, because I believe for ‘Smallville’ and for myself as well, and a little bit for television, kind of breaking new ground with this character and with the logistics of it.”

He then explains how Hawkman will affect Clark Kent's evolution as being the superhero we all know and love.

“Hawkman being the alpha in the Justice Society, being someone who...has made some missteps along the way, can or could represent a type of mentor character to Clark in his leadership abilities with his burgeoning team members of the Justice League,” Shanks said. “He represents a character that has a lot of wisdom to pass down to this next generation, so there is a strong possibility that once the initial phase wears off that there will be a coming together of those two to paint a larger portrait of the future, of what Clark has available to him and what his options are.”

LEEE777 - Well I can;t Friggin' wait for this two-parter and hopefully we will see more of the JSA. I smell spin off, but that's just me! ; )

@gtrman-lol

I went off Smallville but I might watch this episode since I'ma big fan of the Hawkman character, I think they should keep him in the series for a while longer than Stargirl and Dr. Fate like play a Green Arrow type role or more of a Martian Manhunter one.

Doctor Fate is a really great character, I wanted to really see him for a while in some kind of show. Hawkman is a great character, and I can't wait to see him spread his wings, hopefully he'll pound someone with his mace. Stargirl, okay choice, I like the character but not my choice to have in a smallville episode, but I still want to see her. I only wish they could have shown Mr. Terrific, he's my favorite JSA character. But still satisfaied with the producer's choice.

sounds good, I like how they are slowly getting into the comic book feel. I know they would need a bigger budget to get it on point but these last couple of episodes have been great. They almost can't deny a "Metropolis" show.

Good. Although I wonder which Hawkman this is going to be? You don't suppose Johns will introduce him as being from Thanagar, do you? In a way, I'd kind of like to see the whole "Thanagar technology influenced Egyptian civilization" thing that they used in the animated series. I thought it was a nice way of including all the elements of HM's origin yet allowed for them to explore the possibilities of using the Thanagarian police and military in the series. Whatever they do, I bet it's whatever will lend itself best to a spin-off, which is fine by me.

@Soforizo@ darn right Shanks is a totally underrated
actor! He was awesome on Burn Notice, a very complex
heartbreaking character! But Burn Notice is way-beyond-
itself good! And with my man Bruce it can't be more
perfect!

I am so looking forward to these episodes of Smallville
with the JSA! Smallville just keeps getting better and
better! I don't know what they did during the summer
break but the producers have so greatly improved
Smallville that it's almost not the same show anymore!
