We never expected Warner Bros. to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, but Zack Snyder's Justice League made its debut on HBO Max way back in March 2021.
It received positive reviews (which were infinitely better than 2017's effort) but some newly shot sequel teases thrown in by the filmmaker resulted in the birth of a new #RestoreTheSnyderVerse hashtag. Since then, it's become clear that won't happen, particularly with a new DCU reboot on the horizon from DC Studios.
Earlier this week, there was a lot of disgruntled murmurings on social media when the movie's trailer was mysteriously pulled from Max's YouTube channel.
That was odd considering the fact it's by far their most-viewed trailer with over 30 million views, but we've since heard it's simply been made private due to a music licensing issue. Something similar happened in 2020 when it was first released, so we can believe it.
However, adding more fuel to the conspiracy-themed fire is the fact HBO Max Europe has taken down Zack Snyder's Justice League without warning or explanation.
As we write this, it's still on the U.S. Max, but it's hard not to wonder if the clock might be ticking. Of course, the movie certainly isn't going to just vanish because it remains readily available on Blu-ray and other Digital platforms.
Now the streaming bubble has burst, the likes of Max and Disney+ are pulling a lot of content in an effort to save money. With that in mind, it's feasible Zack Snyder's Justice League could be licensed to another platform such as Netflix in an effort to recoup losses.
And no, that streaming service also won't #RestoreTheSnyderVerse!
Stay tuned for updates.
